Why I Love Staying Indoors

Today is Sunday, and it’s been a long while since I actually went out. To be honest, I’ve had a few issues with my boyfriend lately, so I just felt like stepping out to clear my head. You know that feeling when you’ve been indoors too much and you just need to breathe fresh air, see people, and distract yourself? Yeah, that was me.

So I got dressed and decided to take myself out. No particular plan, I just wanted to stroll around, maybe get a snack and just enjoy my own company. Along the way, I started craving ice cream. Immediately Coldstone came to mind. I’ve never had it before, but I’ve seen plenty of hype online people posting pictures with all the fancy cups and toppings. I told myself, “Why not? Today might just be the day I finally taste this thing.”

I walked into Coldstone with all the confidence in the world, smiling as if I was a regular customer. The place looked really nice, filled with people casually picking ice cream like it was nothing. I went to the counter and asked about the prices. My sister, when the girl said the smallest cup was ₦12,000, my heart skipped. I asked her to show me the cup, and honestly, I don’t know why I was expecting a bucket. The thing she brought out looked like something I could finish in less than 10 minutes.

I just stood there quietly, calculating how many plates of food that ₦12,000 could buy me. In my mind I said, “So this is what they mean when they say enjoyment is expensive.”

Anyway, I tried to compose myself, but the girl just had to ask what my budget was. With small voice I said, “₦5,000.” She looked at me and shook her head. At that point, I wanted the ground to swallow me. I thanked her and stylishly walked out, pretending like I wasn’t pained, but deep down I knew Coldstone had humbled me.

I didn’t give up though. I went to get my normal unbranded ice cream for less than that price, and the plate was big enough to fill me up. It was sweet, it was satisfying, but let’s be honest, it wasn’t Coldstone.

That experience made me laugh at myself later. Not because of the money, but because I realized Coldstone is for people whose wallets are ready. One day, I’ll go back there when I know I won’t blink at the price. For now, I’ll just stick with the regular ice cream that still does the job.

So my little Sunday lesson? Sometimes, it’s not even about the expensive things. Just step out, catch some air, eat what you can afford, and enjoy your own company. It really helps to clear your head and refresh you for the new week.

Who knows, while you’re out, you might even bump into someone that makes your day or at least find gist to laugh about later, like me and my Coldstone story.
