Starting My 7 Months of Back to Back Farming In School. Day 1

I have been hearing so much about the Farm Practice Year (FPY) since my year one in the university and been waiting for my turn, well it is my turn now.

My school has a program for agriculture students in their fourth year which is a full year practical on the farm, the school farm. You get to do a lot of things on the farm like clearing of bushes, cultivating lands, planting crops, taking care of farm animals (cow, goat, sheep, rabbit, poultry birds, etc).

Today was day one

Day one already felt like day 235 already, I can't express myself so well in words what I did and how I am feeling now. We were told to come early to the farm this morning, so I and my friends got to the farm 7:24am. Like we expected, the farm instructor didn't get to the farm until about 45 minutes later. Then we walk down to a large portion of land, it was a slipe slope area. The farm instructor gave a welcome and guide speech for almost 30minutes and we all had to stand to listen to him: of course not everyone could hear him.

We had been assigned to groups before today so every group gathered its member after the farm intrusctor was done. We have 12 groups with 120 students in each groups with 10 teams in a group and a team has 10 members. Each group was assigned a 100 meter of land to clear, I mean we were asked to clear a very large area of land of about 328 feets. I am in group 4, team 10. We got to our portion of land and started cutting the thick grasses, shrubs and small trees. Initially, I didn't plan to do much but I saw few ladies who were cutting the grasses like pro and I couldn't just stand watching. So I went inside the bush, chose a place and cut till I was tired.

A guy came with a bluetooth mp3 speaker and he decided to change the atmoshphere with music blasting from the speaker. Everyone was gingered to continue working again because of the music. We had little fun at first but after 30 minutes everyone got tired and the facial experession wasn't atteactive anymore.

We had arguments later on how far should we cut for the day because it was obvious that we would not finish in a day. Also argued about packing the cut grasses and trees in a place, who and who did not do any work.

About 70% of the students in my group were cooperative which helped us get the job for the day done faster than every other group. We were delayed for an extra hour because of attendance sheet: we had a tough arguement concerning the attendace, like queing to get our names written down, how to write it,who and who should write down the names.

At last, we were released to go home around past 11am after the farm instructor took the attendace for cross checking. I also had to wait for my friends who were in other groups which made me wait for another extra 1 hour (most members in their groups didn't cooperate, so they were delayed).

Right now, I am so tired and was only able to sleep for an hour because I had to finish up a design immediately I got home. I woke up the Monday Heart to Heart Hangout.

this was the design I was making, still needs little touch

I wonder how it would be tomorrow: we are to continue from where we stopped today and it is as if I have used up the whole strength for week in a day😂😂. I am fed up, not tired.

Haha! Seriously! I know you couldn't stand the ladies intimidation😁
You must have done a lot of work, you better make sure you rest and don't let the ladies intimate you with hard work again 😀

Lol. It was not even an intimidation, I felt inspired when I saw those ladies working so I had to join them immediately. Yeah, I was able to rest for a while.

Thank you Queenkong

it is time to be trained to be a farmer. Now that you are in your FPY, you would be mixed with people in other departments, and be able to make friends. Don't just finish with bachelor's degree oh.

Right? I just wish they could have upgrade their systems and farming traditions.

Hmmm.... I will think about that😂😂
