I Can Still Do This Next Year.
One popular and necessary phase immediately after graduating from the university in Nigeria is to go serve your father land, the program, Nigeria Youth Service Corps. I am done with university and noe the next thing is going for service but I haven't had the interst or excitement about it. Next year, I'm definitely not going to miss service because parents see it as one very big and important thing of pride (and I understand them).

The first batch of my set just left for service this week and honestly, I am as cool as ever. I think going for service is the least of my worries right now, I am not ready for all the prerequisites, especially the stress of signing up and making many registration on a very unreliable websites. I joined my school WhatsApp group for NYSC preparation, registration and guidance but I got tired because messages on the group can get to 3,000 in a day; and it's about 4 groups with many messages from over 4,000+ students trying ask or answer a questions and other times, just to chill and laugh.
The state and security state of the country is not good at all at the moment, hence, I am more encouraged to postpone to next year. I don't want to get posted to a state where I would need to travel several hours to my destination. I don't have problem going a just a bit far from home but the assurance that the place is good, that environment is conducive, basic amenities are easily provided or gotten is something I don’t want to gamble with. The country is doing enough already and I don't want addition of unnecessary stress and problems.
I have heard countless good and bad news about NYSC camps. I remember vividly when my sister was leaving for Abia state from Lagos. I remember helping her arrange her stuffs and packing her bags, the journey took her several hours. She got lost, found help but almost felt like a kidnap in the helpers car for hours. It was crazy that very day when we kept on calling and texting her to get updates about what the man that gave her a lift was requesting, marriage. That's what he was asking for. Crazy fellow, my mom and I were in church that very day, we intensified our prayers, God answered and this man dropped my sister off at Onitsha Market. She got to camp at almost midnight. Crazzzzyyyyyy.
I am just not ready for it, I am certain nothing bad will happen and everything will work out for my good. I have just not made myself mentally prepared for it but I will have to next year, 2026 unfailingly. I look forward to when I have completed my NYSC registrations and already at camp on the first day for final registration. Spending 12 months in a different environment, entirely different sets of humans from different backgrounds, value, mindset, belief. Looking forward to making friends, connecting and networking with amazing guys and like-minded individuals. Trying out new dishes if I'm posted to a different tribe and, try to learn a new language and culture. I am absolutely ready to explore. But all of these will wait for next year by God's grace.
While I wait for next year, I need to begin to prepare myself in everyway possible so I can be ready when the time comes, I still have a clearance and a convocation to do in school which require some money, about $40 in total. Then, I begin to buy everything I need for service but a step at a time, I'll get there definitely.
Thank you for reading till the end, drop a comment.
Postponing your service to next is good, depending on the points you listed above, NYSC comes with a lot stress, finances and time. Relax you this time and save money and achieve your other aims. Best regards 👍
You get it, I can use this time to achieve a lot while preparing for NYSC next year. Thank you for stopping by

Yeah. It is the best way to prepare for it. Amen and thank you.
Serving brings pride to parents even more than you who is doing the service.
You get it bro. They love to see their children in that uniform and telling people about it.
