MAYBE WEB2 WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER PLACE
There are so many courses we study in schools today, but despite having numerous studies and broad courses, there are some little omissions on the list of studies like #cryptocurrency, social media, and a few others. Maybe these are not yet attributed to be called for a study but believe me, anything popular or trending should be given an open ground in the field of study so people will always make proper use of them, know the pros and cons, good and bad, know what to do and what not to, how it can be abused and how they should be protected to ensure their fair and legitimate use.
I may not know of other countries in the world, but imagine we had a course or subject in school that says “understanding or mastering the #blockchain.” This would not only impact better knowledge but would also lure in a lot of people into the crypto ecosystem. But we will reserve that for another day, and today, we focus on #social_media being a course of study in schools.
But before we judge, let’s take a quick review of the current state of social media platforms. Everyone is out there distributing information one way or the other be it real or fake, good or bad, legit or not, educational or dumb. Sometimes I even feel disappointed by what I see on the internet but I came to realize that 90% of the people who use and publish content on these platforms are mostly chasing after fame or monetization of their page, seeking those followers and tips and now in other to do that, they have to do the irregulars to curb a lot of these followers and gain popularity.
Only a few people on social media post educational content; many others work on either promoting a particular field or course and others just promote themselves with the basic things they can do. And some others are going extreme, literally would do anything in front of the camera to get views. Of course, the internet is full of nudes, and anything on nudity, seduction, or even s*x gets a whole lot more attention than the gospel of Christ. This is no longer news, we all know that.
What baffles me the most is that these contents are also accessible by very teenage people and even kids. You log into your social media account, and the first five trending contents of the week is a video of a young lady exposing her thighs and cleavages, shaking their ass, and all sorts of stuff trying to get attention or accreditation? I don’t know. Some others go ahead and post content that is not supposed to be viewed by children. You find people making sex education online explaining the need to have sex and even going further to the point of sharing their personal sex experiences and what they enjoy the most during intercourses. And a 12-year-old whose dad probably got him or her a cellphone happens to be viewing these contents and getting mind-polluted.
I bet if social media like Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and every other web2 platform out there were given some grounds on the education system, allowing every young and old to have a vibrant knowledge on how to use and not to misuse these platforms, social media would have been quite better than it is today and who knows it might as well be more facilitated than it is today.
I feel like fornication and adultery Is being promoted more than the actual contents that would have made the world a better place. Social media are accessible by every single person as long as you can operate a mobile device or PC and basically, any gadget that has access to the internet. Please use these #WEB2 platforms responsibly.
NB: images are mine!
You made a good point. Social media is everywhere, and many people, especially young ones, don’t know the right way to use it. Teaching it in schools could help, but do you think it will really change anything? People will still post whatever they want.
Well, people may still post what they feel like, now it's left for the founders of these platforms to know how to handle certain informations Posted just like Twitter having a strict algorithm on nudity and hate speeches
You have said it all, sometimes I wonder why most things we study in school are barely applicable to real life situations, while the things with the greatest impact on our lives are not given avenue to be studied in schools, this vintage thinking of the academic board of feeling the need to stick to the analogue curriculum despite we being in a digital world is inappropriate. If we were to study Social media usage in schools and social media platforms require a bit of evidence of certification before making use of the platform, it would reduce the improper usage of social media significantly.
Don't even go there😂 that part you said most things we study don't have a real life application cause I used mathematics to eat this morning 😅
Well true, if there is literacy on the use of social media it would definitely be a better step to making the world a better place
If the use of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
I agree with you that an early education would have made the social media less chaotic and immoral than it is now. Many people would have had great use of the social media if they were enough on the merits and demerits.
