Rewarding Excellence!!!

To be honest, money is a motivation for many people including myself. When we see money as a reward for what we do, it boosts our focus and commitment to a particular thing. What makes an employee intensify in his or her work? It is because of the reward for his or her previous excellence at work. A lot of people love recognition especially when they are appreciated and praised with an award in the presence of others.

Giving positive reinforcement in the form of cash helps an individual to work harder for more. Although there are perks to it too when it is done every time as it makes such an individual relent and only do the work knowing he or she would be rewarded, this then allows them to do it for the money alone and other times cheat.

I agree that there should be cash rewards for academic brilliance for students who are doing well in class. A lot of times, some students at my PPA have been called to the assembly field, and presented with envelopes that contained some amount of money, appreciating them for representing their school in debate competitions elsewhere and coming first, second and third positions. This motivates the students to perform better next time, as well as encouraging others to compete with them.

Students need some reinforcement in the positive way more than the negative. This is not to discard the negative reinforcement but focus should be more on the positive side as this brings motivation, encouragement and commitment to such students in performing better every time. A lot of student carries the notion that school is a scam because of what they have been exposed to and have experienced so, results in making money to survive while discarding the usefulness of education.

Being a teacher, I know how motivating it is for some students when you praise them with some encouraging words and it gets better when money is involved. Sometimes, I give my students money for doing well in my subject and this, I only do unexpectedly. I might just walk into the classroom, ask questions from the previous topics and whoever gets it right takes my money. With this, a lot of students get prepared whenever I walk into the classroom because they know questions could come up anytime. It makes the class interesting too.

Everyone can not be the same in terms of brilliance but the ones struggling can try, not thinking about stopping school to make money when they are rewarded with cash for putting in their best. Not only cash alone, some things could be settled for students like paying their bills, textbooks, and resources they lack as these are the things that motivate them to perform better.

Cash reward for academic brilliance is a good thing as it boosts the ability of a student to perform better and also creates a suitable learning environment where students are found in groups discussing and helping themselves out rather than each individual doing things as they want and not getting serious with their studies.

When they have the belief that they will be rewarded at the end of the day, it keeps them glued to their books but this shouldn't happen all the time as it can change the students' mentality which would only make them study for the reward and not to become better for themselves.

Money plays the significant role in improving education level. Some students rely on it because they didn't have anything to fullfill their needs. I'm happy to see you are teacher who likes to cash reward unexpectedly for students. This is best teaching style Princess.

I am happy to read a teacher's perspective on this particular topic.
Yes I agree with you that a cash reward is a good tool to motivate students but It should not be applied permanently.
Nice review.

Yes, students will only rely on it once it becomes permanent and only perform for the money and not to be focused in it. Thank you for stopping by.

Okay teacher, maybe I should try giving money to the ones that do well in my subjects... Come and gimme money na, I'm your student o 🥺

I also think money is a good motivation to anyone including students in schools.

I'll be in support of this in academics so long it isn't a permanent thing... The random or unexpected approach to it will foster brilliancy among students.

You have made great points and I agree with you because both young and old want money in age we live in so it's impossible for people not to put in their best when money is involved.

Exactly, money is a motivation even in offices 😂 you will see people doing their assigned tasks well and happy because the salary is increased, talk more of students, they need this award to do better.

Any form of reward, whether cash, scholarship or material prizes should be given to students when they do well, and not only praise or word of mouth. It will greatly motivate them to do better

If I tell you this experience I had eh.
As the top student in my mock in JHS, my teacher gave me bread.
I don’t even know what she was thinking because the second mock, i wasn’t even motivated to study again

While monetary rewards are good, it is important to keep things balanced. Let them know that becoming successful shouldn't be a competition on who gets more money, but who makes impact through his knowledge.

You wrote well.
