A Sweet Gem I Can Never Forget

As we grow up, we are blessed with some people who go out of their way to ensure we are doing fine. Some people actually take it upon themselves to ensure others aren’t led astray, even if they seem rebellious at first; their total sacrifice and commitment will speak for themselves someday when they do not give up.
No doubt, God has brought many people my way since I was born into this world. I didn’t grow to this stage all by myself; it all came from people who cared and believed in me. They watched me grow, contributed to my journey and helped me sail through the storms of life.
There is one particular person who will always be in my life, who fills in the gap here. Yes, I do not dispute that others didn’t try; of course, they did but for this particular instance of writing a post about it, I would only mention one of them.
It’s Damilola, my big sister. This lady did all within her power and capacity for me. I can never take her for granted and I don’t think there can ever be anything that would make me not forgive her. She really tried for me, and I wish I could repay her, but I guess I am doing my best in praying for her all the time. Prayer goes a long way, though.
When I finished my Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in the year 2015, that was after my mom’s death. I went to live with my Dad because there was no one with him then, and someone had to stay with him, considering that his wife had just left him. I thought of finding a job to aid him and I found a teaching job not far from our home.
My mind had already shifted from continuing my education because I’d thought no one would help me; the person who was helping had gone. At that time, my sister had moved to Lagos and was working with a company; most times, she worked from home. She only just started working after her NYSC.
She called me one day and asked about my education and how I plan to further. When I explained to her that there was no help for me to go back and that I had already made up my mind not to go further. She refused and said I must go and that I should not worry about that.
That lady did try for me a lot. She sponsored my education till I finished, and she’s still doing her best even for our other siblings. It has been God using her to help me, and I’m glad I have got such a kind sister who would go out of her way to support her family. I will always remember her forever because she’s part of my achievement and life’s journey.
