Yam-tastic French Fries; improvising with household ingredients

French fries are a snack I love so much, and I can't deny that I wouldn't mind having it often.

The first time I had French, I couldn't stop admiring the yummy taste and how crispy it was, but then it is quite expensive here, so it is not something I could go out to buy just like I wanted it.

So instead of giving up on it, I decided to make mine at home, hahaha 😂 homemade yam French fries, but the French fries I am about to share for this contest are different from the usual ones we normally buy out there.

Potatoes are quite expensive, and because of that, they are hard to find, so I had to improvise with leftover yam at home, so I made use of the yam instead of the usual potatoes.

I know some people would be thinking of what the yam would look like, so I would be sharing the recipes and the process as well.

Ingredients are:

Yam (4 slices)
Flour (1 tablespoon)
Egg (1 piece)
Tomato paste (25g)
Chili pepper (5g)
Salt (1 teaspoon)
Seasoning cube (1 piece)
Oil (200ml)

Procedure

I cut the yam, peeled the back off, rinsed them, and packed them inside a clean pot for boiling.

I added half a teaspoon of salt to taste.

After ten minutes, the yams had already been parboiled, so I removed them from the water.

I placed them on the cutting board and then made use of a big knife to cut them into smaller pieces, then transferred them into a big pan.

I broke the egg inside a clean plate and then whisked it thoroughly.

I sprinkled the flour on the sliced yam and shook the pan so that the flour could touch every single yam inside the pan.

Lastly, I poured the whisk egg on the yam and then shook the pan again. The reason I shook it without touching it was because I didn't want the yam to break.

I put a big frying pan on the burner, poured the oil, and then allowed it to get hot.

After that, I placed the sliced yams wrapped in egg and flour inside the hot oil.

I did stir fry on low heat; I turned it every second to make sure it didn't get burned.

The same procedure was applied to the rest of the yam.

I put a smaller frying pan on the burner. I transferred the hot oil inside, then added the seasoning cube and salt inside the oil.

I poured the tomato paste inside and stirred for two seconds, then added the chili powder and then allowed it to fry for another two minutes.

Now my homemade French fries are ready.

I hope you like my recipe and the outcome of the yam French fries.

I would never have thought of preparing yam that way, I've always used it in soups, but it looks crispy like a potato chip, that's a great idea @princess-dara

Yam can be cooked in multiple ways and I love it for that reason.
Am glad you love the recipe ☺️
