Why it matters…

I was just a little girl when I realized that I have to make my own money and not depend on my mother’s money. Let’s just say the hardship I grew up with made me wise at a tender age and also opened my eyes to how to save up money and, of course, how to make money as well.

I started working and saving money when I was in JSS3. I didn’t just start working; I took advantage of the moment, and it worked out for me positively. My mom was a workaholic then, and seeing how much she struggled to put food on our table made every one of us sit tight and want to help at all costs.

My mom believes in handwork, probably because when she was growing up that was the way she was brought up, so she made sure all of us had a handwork of any of our choice. I chose learning computer packages because that was what was trending then.

Aside from that, I was going to study computer programming at the university, so I thought of having basic knowledge of how to operate computers before getting into the university.

I started learning computer packages when I was in JSS2, and by the time I was in JSS3, I had already started working for customers in my boss’s office. I started getting paid for the work when we were given assignments in school that had to do with CorelDraw and saving it on a diskette, which none of my classmates knew how to go about.

I collected #5 from anyone who needed my help to get the assignment done, and I became an idol in my class, which I was happy about since I am making money as well.

Every day I go home with no less than 50 because everyone depends on me for their computer assignments, and I started saving my money. I even joined daily contributions, which I usually gave to my mom at the end of the month.

It will be very good if parents can teach their children how to manage their finances right from when they are little because what we all know now is what we were taught when we were little. So children should be taught how to manage their finances immediately when they recognize money, and then they should be put through how to manage it.

It might sound weird to teach children how to manage their finances because they don’t have money or work, but the little money they do collect from their uncles can be used to teach them as well. I have seen a child who doesn’t joke with any amount given to him; immediately the money landed on his hand, he had already known what he was going to buy with it.

There was a day his daddy sent him a recharge card, and he made use of the money to buy himself a Pepsi drink since that’s what he used to drink with all his money.

Such a boy might have financial trouble when he grows up because he wasn’t able to learn how to manage his finances when he was little.

From such young age you was into finance and earning your own hard work money. I am so proud of you that you didn't let hardships close your way and you choose to crush every hardtime with your passion, hard work and with your attitude of working. Well done.
