Painful separation
Dorcas and Mathew got married five years ago and a year after they had a beautiful daughter named Janet, meanwhile, immediately after they got married Mathew lost his job at the bank where he works. So most of the responsibility has been on Dorcas's neck and her childhood friend Bola who is still single and not searching wouldn't stop telling her what to do about the situation since her shop is getting empty due to the overweight responsibility.
"Hey babe, what's for breakfast?" Mathew asks his wife who is getting ready for work.
"As you can see I need to get to the shop as early as possible because someone is coming to buy plenty of foodstuffs and I don't want to miss the opportunity," Dorcas replied while she was dressing up for Janet.
"Oh I see, that's good just take care of my baby girl I will sort myself," Mathew replied then went back into the room.
Dorcas dropped her daughter at school and then went back to her shop, while cleaning up the shop her friend came.
"My beautiful housewife friend," Bola said immediately as she entered Dorcas's shop.
"Stop it I don't like that, if you want to greet just greet which one is housewife," Dorcas replied angrily.
"Sorry babe, can't I joke with you again?" Bola apologizes.
"I don't like such a joke please," Dorcas replied to her.
"So when are you going to stock this shop because there is nothing in it again," Bola asked.
Dorcas sighed then said, "I don't know what to do again because shop rent is about to due and my landlord will soon start disturbing me, even the house rent is due as well,".
"Babe you know what to do, you just don't want to do it," Bola replied.
"I seriously don't know Bola," Dorcas said.
"Think about what I have been telling you all this while, that is the only solution to all this mess you drag yourself into," Bola said.
"Hell no, that? I can't do it and why would I have an extramarital affair because of a situation that will soon be over, meanwhile stop calling my marriage a mess because I never dragged myself into it I love Mathew and he loves me too that is why we got married," Bola replied angrily.
"Stop getting anything unnecessarily Dorcas this situation will never be over until you do something, after all, I never ask you to leave your husband," Bola said as she walked around the shop.
"But Bola," Dorcas wanted to say something but Bola stopped her.
"There is no but anywhere, use what you have to get what you want," Bola replied.
"So how do I start?" Dorcas asked.
"Good girl, I have someone who will take good care of you so relax," Bola replied.
After that day, Dorcas begins to change towards her husband, she no longer cares about her home all she does is take care of the bills while she uses her shop as an excuse for being busy. Dorcas stopped taking her daughter to school because she didn't want her boyfriend to know she had a daughter and she was married. Mathew saw all the changes but he never suspected that Dorcas could cheat on him.
"Honey, what is wrong with us, you don't act cool like before all you do is come home sleep, and leave in the morning again, what is happening?" Mathew asked his wife.
"Mat see I had a very long day so we will discuss this tomorrow," Dorcas said as she jumped on their matrimonial bed.
"Honey please let's talk about this now because I know you won't have time in the morning," Mathew replied.
"What? What is it? I said am tired I can't talk," Dorcas shouted at her husband and that was when Mathew knew something was wrong somewhere.
"Am... am sorry you can sleep now, meanwhile the landlord brought the receipt, I don't know you have sorted everything. Thanks for all you do for me," Mathew replied then left the room for Dorcas.
Some days later, Mathew was at home taking care of the house when he heard a knock on the door.
"Who's there?" He asked while walking towards the door.
"Bro it's me," James happens to be Mathew's street brother and Mathew always gives him money when he was working so James comes in.
"Brother I saw a board somewhere they are looking for a hotel cleaner I don't know if you are interested," James said.
"Wow that's good and why won't I be interested? I need to provide for my family before everything falls apart," Mathew replied as he collected the address from James.
"Bro you must be there tomorrow because I have spoken with the receptionist already so just be prepared," James said on his way out.
The next day, Dorcas rushed out as usual and Mathew dropped Janet in her before going to the hotel.
"Good morning ma," Mathew greeted the receptionist.
"Good morning sir, how may I help you,".
"I was sent here by James for the job of cleaner," Mathew replied.
"Oh that's good, you can fill this form and when you are done security will show you around," the receptionist said to Mathew.
"Ok ma'am," Mathew said while feeling so happy because he never knew James of all people could get him a job just like that without being interviewed or anything so he filled the form and then met the security. Mathew started working instantly which he was so happy about.
In the afternoon Mathew closed from work since the cleaners had three shifts, morning afternoon, and night. Mathew saw someone that looked like his wife but he couldn't see the person's face so just overlooked the person.
At night, "Honey I have good news for you," Mathew said to his wife.
"See babe I don't want to hear anything because I know you want to ask for money and I don't have money right now," Dorcas replied.
"Come on honey stop, I am not asking for money instead I got a job," Mathew said with excitement written all over his face.
"Wow really, that's good news indeed, so what kind of job are we talking about and the salary," Dorcas said with excitement on her face.
"Cleaner and the salary is thirty thousand naira per month," Mathew replied with the hope that Dorcas would jump at him for joy but instead Dorcas hissed and then replied, "So you are happy because of thirty thousand naira Mat?".
"But babe," Mathew was about to explain things to her but Dorcas didn't want to hear anything.
"Just have fun with your thirty thousand naira salary and leave me out of this rubbish you call a job," Dorcas replied as she covered herself up on the bed.
The next day, Mathew had finished work and he was rushing out to pick his daughter up from school when he bumped into Dorcas and another man coming outside from one of the rooms in the hotel.
"Dorcas," Mathew shouted.
"OMG, Mat it's not what you think," Dorcas said.
"Don't you dare sell me a dog," Mathew said as he moved closer to Dorcas.
"Who is this," the other guy said.
"Oh now I get, well let me burst your bubbles this lady right here is my wife the mother of my child," Mathew shouted at the guy.
"What?" The guy shouted.
"I can explain," Dorcas said as she grabbed Mathew's shirt, but Mathew left angrily without listening to Dorcas.
They got home early and Dorcas went on her knees.
"Mat please it's not what you think, I was there on a business transaction," Dorcas tried to cover up her secret.
"Don't patronize me, I know what I saw so don't you dare lie to me Doc I knew something wasn't right but I just can't place a finger at whatever you are doing, so you have been cheating on me while I was running around the street trying to get a job so that I can provide for the family," Mathew said while tears roll down his cheek.
"Mat please I can explain," Dorcas replied.
"You don't need to because I have seen you there before but I thought I was mistaken and now I can't buy any lie you want to cook so all I want you to do now is pack your things and leave this house for me please, I said please because I don't want to commit a crime," Mathew replied.
Mathew and Dorcas got separated but Janet refused to follow Dorcas so she stayed with her Dad while Dorcas moved to her friend Bola's house before she finally signed the divorce paper.
Some years later, Mathew met a rich girl in the hotel and remarried again with his child while Dorcas closed down her shop and she couldn't find a better man like Mathew again which she lived with regret all her life.
So sad, and dorcas really really messed up, your married and it's deal sealed in heaven and on earth nothing should make you look back at your past, if bola was so good why didn't he marry her first. A demon indeed that's what he was, and she fell for it. Happy Matt moved on.
Bola was a girl in the story line and I can understand that some friends wouldn't let their friend had a peaceful home since they don't have one and Dorcas fall for her tricks as well.
This is quite realistic, many people find it hard to stay in a relationship one any predicament befall any of the people involved.
It's a good thing Matt moved on and for Dorcas, I hope she gets a second chance.
I also hope she got second chance even though she doesn't deserve it, sometimes we shouldn't look at what is out there no matter what we are going through.
In fact, our life is like this, some people's life is comfortable and some people's life is painful, we have to accept it.
Unfortunately, we have bad influences like Bola in the society and around marriages and, like the saying, when a dog begins to bark at its owner, someone is feeding it.
Mat was willing to do any kind of Job to provide for this family.
Many marriages have failed from external influences like Bola. Dorcas painfully ended up with Bola who was the Genesis of her problems.
Good script here
Yeah because she had nowhere to go after trashing her marriage and am sure people like Bola would be very happy to see the Dorcas fall for the tricks.
Hmmm! Evil companionship and it's effects. This is really a great study with moral. Bad friends can destroy ones home. It is important to know how much information we divulge about our home to friends to avoid unsolicited advise.
Yeah some friends are not really happy we are doing great so they are waiting for a chance to get in and destroy everything and that was what happened to Dorcas.
You have carefully worked out a complex plot, @princess-dara. The trajectory that Dorcas' life takes is one that she felt was necessary, but the reader likely will not agree. Dorcas had choices. She could have chosen to close the shop, or to move. Instead she chose to ruin her marriage. We find your descriptions powerful. It's a little hard to believe that Dorcas would so easily choose a life of duplicity and disloyalty, but we can in the end accept this.
Great story arc, @princess-dara.
Thank you for sharing this story with us.
Wow am glad you love the story, yeah she could have choose to close the shop but instead she ruined her beauty marriage.
