Day 2 of Thingyan Water Festival

Dear friends,

Today is the 2nd day of Thingyan Water Festival and my family and I attended two monasteries to donate some requisites to them. The Myanmar New Year is coming soon, which is 17th of April and in our Shan tradition, we attended monasteries two times - before the New Year and in the New Year. During the Thingyan water festival, people splash water to wash away dirt and leave it behind in the old year.

And for the elderly people, they go to monasteries to take sabbath and keep eight precepts, which is a good way to get their mind cleaner and purer. For us, we went to monasties in the morning and cleaned the house and compound the day before. And for children, they play water splashing water to the passerbys on roads.

Today, one of the monasteries we attended had pagoda hill and a nice view overseeing the view below our town, Taunggyi. The weather is pleasant but a little gloomy with some clouds and I was able to capture some of the beautiful views as below.

And we paid homage to the head monk and donated some requisites for the monastery.

For me, I didn't play water during the festival; I prefer to stay home because the weather was cold with some shower in the afternoon. And it is beter not to be festive during the civil wars and the severe earthquake aftermath.
