Sin duda los autores suecos cada vez me convencen más, ya voy varios libros en que su estilo me gusta, aun cuando el autor sea distinto. En esta ocasión, reseño un título que tuvo una adaptación en Netflix, con el mismo nombre. El libro fue publicado en 2018.

Swedish authors are definitely winning me over more and more. I've read several books now and I like their style, even when the author is different. This time, I'm reviewing a title that was adapted for Netflix, with the same name. The book was published in 2018.

Sinopsis: En una ciudad de Suecia, vive la familia Sandell. Su vida casi rutinaria se ve alterada cuando la única hija de la familia es acusada de asesinato. Tras ello, cada integrante pasará por diferentes procesos mientras llega el juicio, se celebra y finalmente da un veredicto.

Synopsis: The Sandell family lives in a city in Sweden. Their almost routine life is disrupted when the family's only daughter is accused of murder. After that, each member goes through different processes as the trial approaches, takes place, and finally reaches a verdict.

El libro divide la trama en 3 partes, y cada parte está narrada por un integrante de la familia. Comienza el padre, Adam, quien es un sacerdote. Luego sigue la hija Stella, quien vive la antelación del juicio en la cárcel. Y se cierra con la madre Ulrika, una prestigiosa abogada.

The book divides the plot into three parts, each narrated by a member of the family. It begins with the father, Adam, who is a priest. Next is the daughter, Stella, who is awaiting trial in prison. The book ends with the mother, Ulrika, a prestigious lawyer.

Los padres tendrán que pasar por dilemas morales, relativos a su profesión y circunstancias, en donde deberán decidir a qué dar prioridad. La hija, que sabe la verdad, pasará por un proceso de introspección, mientras recuerda su pasado.

The parents will have to face moral dilemmas related to their profession and circumstances, where they must decide what to prioritize. The daughter, who knows the truth, will go through a process of introspection as she remembers her past.

Tiene todo lo que se supone en una trama de thriller, pero no creo que se deba encasillar mucho en eso, pues creo que al dar vista a los 3 personajes, logra mostrar cómo una familia puede entenderse y dejarse de entender, por falta de comunicación, heridas sin cerrar, expectativas rotas y otros vaivenes. Deja mucho para la reflexión todo ello. Un ejemplo es como grandes aspectos de un familiar que ves todos los días, puede ser oculto o no comprender realmente.

It has everything you would expect in a thriller plot, but I don't think it should be pigeonholed too much, because I believe that by focusing on the three characters, it manages to show how a family can understand each other and then stop understanding each other due to a lack of communication, unhealed wounds, broken expectations, and other ups and downs. It leaves a lot to think about. One example is how important aspects of a family member you see every day can be hidden or not really understood.

Eso sí, la duda está en todo el libro, ¿la hija es realmente una asesina o se encontró en un mal momento en un mal lugar? El final lo aclara todo. Como todo caso, tiene sus pistas, sus sospechosos, sus giros y sorpresas.

Of course, the question remains throughout the book: is the daughter really a murderer, or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time? The ending clarifies everything. As in any case, there are clues, suspects, twists, and surprises.

El libro es fácil de leer y es adictivo. A pesar de pasar las 400 páginas, se pasan volando. Si te parece interesante la premisa, te la recomiendo.

The book is easy to read and addictive. Despite being over 400 pages long, it flies by. If you find the premise interesting, I recommend it.
