Siempre recuerdo mi época universitaria cuando leo libros de Agatha Christie, pues fue en esos años que leí muchos libros suyos. Fáciles de leer y con tramas adictivas lo hacía una buena opción de lectura. Pero lo bueno es que la autora fue bien prolífica, dejando muchos libros por leer, como este título que leí hace poco. Publicada en 1950.

I always remember my college days when I read Agatha Christie books, because it was in those years that I read many of her books. Easy to read and with addictive plots made it a good choice of reading. But the good thing is that the author was quite prolific, leaving many books to read, like this title I read recently. Published in 1950.

Sinopsis: El libro es una colección de relatos detectivescos, donde hay sospechosos, pistas y culpables. El título hace referencia a una canción infantil inglesa y que titula el primer relato, que cuenta la historia de una pareja de recién casados, que dirige una pequeña casa de huéspedes y en su primeros días de funcionamiento, sufre una tragedia.

Synopsis: The book is a collection of detective stories, where there are suspects, clues and culprits. The title refers to an English nursery rhyme and the title of the first story, which tells the story of a newlywed couple, who run a small boarding house and in its first days of operation, suffers a tragedy.

Son 9 relatos, siendo el primero “Tres ratones ciegos” el más largo, de casi 100 páginas. Como mencione, en casi todos ellos hay un asesinato, luego le sigue una variedad de pistas y cierto analisis, al final se devela al culpable y como realizo el asesinato. En esta colección se incluyen unos relatos con sus famosos detectives: Hercules Poirot y Miss Marple.

There are 9 stories, being the first one “Three blind mice” the longest, almost 100 pages long. As I mentioned, in almost all of them there is a murder, then follows a variety of clues and some analysis, at the end the culprit is revealed and how he carried out the murder. In this collection are included some stories with her famous detectives: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

Agatha Christie es excelente mezclando situaciones diversas, que incluso pueden tener un fuerte drama familiar, amoroso u otros, dándonos pistas para elucubrar los motivos del asesino. Por otro lado, si recién la conoces, te sorprenderá con sus resoluciones y pequeños detalles que a veces dejamos pasar. Tomar en cuenta que el contexto de los relatos está ubicado a mediados del siglo XX.

Agatha Christie is excellent at mixing diverse situations, which can even have a strong family drama, love or others, giving us clues to elucidate the motives of the murderer. On the other hand, if you just know her, she will surprise you with her resolutions and small details that we sometimes miss. Take into account that the context of the stories is set in the mid-twentieth century.

Entre los otros relatos me gustó el de las hermanas, una enferma y otra sana, llamado “El caso de la doncella perfecta” . El relato del apartamento en que la puerta estaba cerrada y tienen que entrar por un montacargas de carbón, llamado “El apartamento del tercer piso”; y al final, el relato de una pareja recién casada pero se ve aterrorizada por la antigua inquilina de su casa, llamado “El caso de la guardesa”.

Among the other stories I liked the one about the sisters, one sick and the other healthy, called “The Case of the Perfect Maiden”. The story of the apartment where the door was locked and they have to enter through a coal hoist, called “The third floor apartment”; and at the end, the story of a newly married couple who are terrorized by the former tenant of their house, called “The case of the keeper”.

Lo malo es que algunos relatos no acaban siendo igual de interesantes, pero sirven para ver la variedad de situaciones que propone la autora.

The downside is that some stories do not end up being equally interesting, but they serve to see the variety of situations proposed by the author.

En general es una buena opción para conocer a la autora, o leer casos detectivescos en situaciones diversas.

In general, it is a good option to get to know the author, or to read detective cases in different situations.
