Un nuevo libro que encontré en oferta, y tras ver una buena apreciación en Amazon, decidí darle una oportunidad. Publicado en 2018.

I found a new book on sale, and after seeing a good review on Amazon, I decided to give it a try. Published in 2018.

Sinopsis: Nueve nuevos clientes van a pasar 10 días en un retiro, que desde el primer día se les promete que les cambiará la vida. Comenzando con masajes, una dieta estricta y un silencio obligatorio; este rumbo planeado irá virando a algo más “transformador”.

Synopsis: Nine new clients are going to spend 10 days at a retreat, which from day one promises to change their lives. Starting with massages, a strict diet, and mandatory silence, this planned course will veer toward something more “transformative.”

Primero partamos con los personajes, que aparte de los 9 clientes, tenemos a la dueña del retiro, Masha, y sus ayudantes. Cada uno, incluido los encargados, cargan con cierto pasado, que llegó a un punto de quiebre. En el caso de los hospedados, cada uno ha llegado con la esperanza de cambiar, tratando de superar problemas de peso, de edad e incluso más graves como un luto. Y en el caso de los encargados, ellos tratan de conseguir un cambio extraordinario en sus clientes, con dinámicas particulares y que poco a poco, irán subiendo la apuesta.

First, let's start with the characters. Apart from the nine clients, we have the owner of the retreat, Masha, and her assistants. Each one, including the managers, carries a certain past that reached a breaking point. In the case of the guests, each one has arrived with the hope of changing, trying to overcome problems with weight, age, and even more serious issues such as grief. And in the case of the managers, they try to achieve an extraordinary change in their clients, with particular dynamics that will gradually raise the stakes.

La trama guarda muchos secretos y mentiras, que se irán revelando según avanza la historia. A su vez, la autora logra hacerte sentir como un huésped más, quien deberá pasar por todas las experiencias del retiro, sin estar seguro que es lo que vendrá después.

The plot holds many secrets and lies, which will be revealed as the story progresses. At the same time, the author manages to make you feel like just another guest, who must go through all the experiences of the retreat, without being sure what will come next.

Si bien tiene momentos dramáticos, es una mezcla particular, creando un escenario que recuerda un poco a Squid Games, no por lo sangriento, sino por ser un espacio cerrado y no saber qué vendrá después.

Although it has dramatic moments, it is a unique blend, creating a setting somewhat reminiscent of Squid Games, not because of the bloodshed, but because it is a closed space and you don't know what will happen next.

Los personajes son interesantes, y esto se ve potenciado por la narración coral, en donde podremos ver los pensamientos de todos. El libro es fácil de leer, de capítulos cortos.

The characters are interesting, and this is enhanced by the choral narration, where we can see everyone's thoughts. The book is easy to read, with short chapters.

Al final, este libro del que no tenía ninguna referencia, ha acabado siendo bastante entretenido, y me parece que ha creado una especie de escenario recurrente, al punto que ya hay una adaptación del mismo, una serie con 2 temporadas en Amazon Prime.

In the end, this book, which I had no reference for, turned out to be quite entertaining, and I think it has created a kind of recurring scenario, to the point that there is already an adaptation of it, a series with two seasons on Amazon Prime.
