Alfaguara tiene una colección que busca promover literatura contemporánea en español, se llama Mapa de las lenguas. He adquirido varios libros de la misma, a los que haré su respectiva reseña, comenzando con este título. Publicado en 2021.
Alfaguara has a collection that seeks to promote contemporary literature in Spanish, called Mapa de las lenguas (Map of Languages). I have acquired several books from this collection, which I will review, starting with this title. Published in 2021.
Sinopsis: Esther, quien vive en España, un día se acaba encontrando con un video en la televisión que le llama la atención, una protesta en un pueblo mexicano y entre las personas mostradas sale su hermana Irene, quien supuestamente murió hace varios años. Con ello inicia una historia que narra eventos pasados y presentes, para entender la relación especial entre ellas, incluyendo sucesos dramáticos y que paso en realidad con Irene.
Synopsis: Esther, who lives in Spain, one day comes across a video on television that catches her attention, a protest in a Mexican town, and among the people shown is her sister Irene, who supposedly died several years ago. This begins a story that narrates past and present events to understand the special relationship between them, including dramatic events and what really happened to Irene.
Un factor clave en la trama es que Irene sufre de una enfermedad mental, una especie de esquizofrenia, que afectó su vida y la de su familia. Otro suceso que marca sus vidas, es que su padre se aleja de sus vidas en su niñez. Con lo dicho, veremos como Esther e Irene vivieron una vida marcada con cambios, rutinas especiales, resentimientos y deseos de escapar.
A key factor in the plot is that Irene suffers from a mental illness, a type of schizophrenia, which affected her life and that of her family. Another event that marks their lives is that their father leaves them when they are children. With that said, we will see how Esther and Irene lived a life marked by changes, special routines, resentments, and desires to escape.
Por otro lado, habrá un poco de investigación, pues un periodista retirado, apoyará a Esther a averiguar la verdad detrás de la desaparición, quien supuestamente murió en un feminicidio masivo. Esto da pie para contar de mucho de lo que ha pasado en México en los últimos años, las tragedias que ocurren y se olvidan, volviéndose rutina.
On the other hand, there will be a bit of investigation, as a retired journalist will help Esther uncover the truth behind the disappearance of her sister, who supposedly died in a mass femicide. This provides an opportunity to talk about much of what has happened in Mexico in recent years, the tragedies that occur and are forgotten, becoming routine.
Lo más interesante me parece es lo que significó la relación familiar para ambas hermanas durante tantos años. En su búsqueda de soluciones y protección para Irene, ello acabó condicionando sus vidas, generando insatisfacción y rencor.
What I find most interesting is what the family relationship meant to both sisters for so many years. In their search for solutions and protection for Irene, it ended up conditioning their lives, generating dissatisfaction and resentment.
La historia es contada en varios capítulos, pero con saltos en el tiempo, a veces se narra el pasado, otra veces el presente y otras veces un pasado más cercano. Puede parecer complicado, pero es difícil perder la ilación, la autora sabe ubicarnos rápidamente.
The story is told in several chapters, but with jumps in time, sometimes narrating the past, other times the present, and other times a more recent past. It may seem complicated, but it is difficult to lose track of the thread, as the author knows how to quickly bring us back on track.
Dicho lo anterior, es una buena novela, que nos hace reflexionar sobre la familia, y las verdades y deseos que no nos decimos.
That said, it is a good novel that makes us reflect on family and the truths and desires we do not tell each other.
