Es indudable que una película que trajo uno de los asesinos seriales más célebres es la protagonizada por Anthony Hopkins, interpretando al famoso personaje Hannibal Lecter, con el mismo título del libro. Es por ello que hace poco me interesó leer la novela y ver que podía aportar a tan interesante historia. Publicada en 1988.

There is no doubt that one of the most famous films about serial killers is the one starring Anthony Hopkins, playing the famous character Hannibal Lecter, with the same title as the book. That is why I recently became interested in reading the novel and seeing what it could add to such an interesting story. Published in 1988.

Sinopsis: Clarice Starling es una joven estudiante del FBI. En una práctica es convocada para hacer uso de sus habilidades y entrevistar a un famoso reo, Hannibal Lecter, quien a pesar de tener un intelecto prodigioso, gusta de comer personas. A su vez, estas entrevistas, y con ayuda de otras autoridades involucradas, darán pistas para atrapar a una asesino serial, llamado “Buffalo Bill”.

Synopsis: Clarice Starling is a young FBI student. During an internship, she is called upon to use her skills to interview a famous prisoner, Hannibal Lecter, who, despite his prodigious intellect, likes to eat people. In turn, these interviews, with the help of other authorities involved, will provide clues to catch a serial killer known as “Buffalo Bill.”

Es una entretenida historia que mezcla suspenso y policial. La joven aprendiz, que a pesar de ser menospreciada por ser una novata y mujer, buscará atar cabos y sacarle la mayor información posible a Hannibal Lecter. Por otro lado, Hannibal tiene sus propios planes y usará las entrevistas para sacarle el mayor rédito posible.

It is an entertaining story that mixes suspense and police drama. The young apprentice, despite being looked down upon for being a novice and a woman, will seek to connect the dots and get as much information as possible out of Hannibal Lecter. On the other hand, Hannibal has his own plans and will use the interviews to his best advantage.

La historia tiene una primera mitad muy procedimental, y ese a mi parecer es su punto más flojo, ya que es poco interesante y no es que la historia destaque en dar soluciones técnicas; sino que brilla, cuando se muestra a Hannibal, que su sola presencia inquieta, y al tener unas grandes habilidades de comprensión y manipulación, obtenemos grandes diálogos y confrontaciones, ya sea con Clarice u otros personajes.

The first half of the story is very procedural, which in my opinion is its weakest point, as it is not very interesting and the story does not stand out in terms of providing technical solutions. However, it shines when Hannibal is shown, as his mere presence is unsettling, and with his great skills of understanding and manipulation, we get great dialogues and confrontations, whether with Clarice or other characters.

Por otro lado, al caso de Buffalo Bill se le da un tono de presura, pues una víctima suya puede morir en pocos días. Ver como se va acortando el cerco, mezclado con las indicaciones de Hannibal, lo hace muy interesante.

On the other hand, Buffalo Bill's case is given a sense of urgency, as one of his victims could die in a matter of days. Seeing the net closing in, mixed with Hannibal's clues, makes it very interesting.

El libro como digo tiene una primera mitad un tanto técnica, pero luego ya todo es directo a la acción y los personajes, acaba siendo bastante entretenida de leer. Habrá muchos pasajes dedicados a conocer más a fondo a los personajes, e incluso sabremos la razón del título del libro.

As I said, the first half of the book is somewhat technical, but then it's all action and characters, and it ends up being quite entertaining to read. There are many passages dedicated to getting to know the characters more deeply, and we even learn the reason behind the book's title.

Luego me enteré que este libro pertenece a una saga de 4 libros, que con suerte leeré en el futuro. Recomendable si quieres un thriller que guarda a uno de los mejores personajes que ha traído este tipo de novela, más allá de si viste sus películas.

I later found out that this book is part of a series of four books, which I hope to read in the future. Recommended if you want a thriller that features one of the best characters this type of novel has ever produced, regardless of whether you've seen the movies.
