Siempre que voy a ferias de libros hay varias zonas dedicadas a ofertas, y en los ultimos días he encontrado bastante libros de la editorial RBA, la cual tiene una Serie Negra, dedicada al género negro y policiaco. Por tal, iré reseñando varios libros que he logrado conseguir de la serie. La de esta oportunidad fue publicada en 1956 y que incluso fue adaptada al cine por el director Francois Truffaut.
Whenever I go to book fairs, there are several areas dedicated to special offers, and in recent days I have found quite a few books from the publisher RBA, which has a Serie Negra, dedicated to crime and detective fiction. Therefore, I will be reviewing several books that I have managed to get hold of from the series. This one was published in 1956 and was even adapted for the cinema by director Francois Truffaut.
Sinopsis: Eddie es el pianista de un bar ordinario en una zona de Filadelfia. Su rutina, de vida tranquila y lejos de su pasado, es afectada cuando su hermano llega al lugar pidiendo ayuda. Y a pesar de intentar evitar saber razones y motivos, no podrá evitar consumirse por una vorágine trágica.
Synopsis: Eddie is the pianist at an ordinary bar in a neighborhood of Philadelphia. His quiet life, far from his past, is disrupted when his brother arrives asking for help. Despite trying to avoid knowing the reasons and motives, he cannot help but be consumed by a tragic maelstrom.

La historia tiene una trama lineal, en que nuestro protagonista busca una vida tranquila y hasta cierto punto mediocre, pues quiere evitar abrir heridas del pasado. Sin embargo, ya sea por sus hermanos, por una camarera que le despierta emociones o por otros personajes; ocurrirá una concatenación de acciones que le llevarán a un punto trágico.
The story has a linear plot, in which our protagonist seeks a quiet and somewhat mediocre life, as he wants to avoid reopening wounds from the past. However, whether it is because of his brothers, a waitress who awakens emotions in him, or other characters, a chain of events will occur that will lead him to a tragic point.
La acción ocurre en pocos días en la historia y muestra de alguna manera, como todo lo que se puede planear, se puede acabar estropeando en pocos momentos. También se sabrá un tanto del pasado del protagonista, que fue un gran pianista pero que llegó a un punto de crisis. Aunque creo que habría sido interesante saber más del pasado de otros personajes, en especial de Lena, la camarera que apoyará en varias partes de la historia.
The action takes place over a few days in the story and shows, in a way, how everything that can be planned can end up going wrong in a few moments. We also learn a little about the protagonist's past, who was a great pianist but reached a point of crisis. Although I think it would have been interesting to know more about the past of other characters, especially Lena, the waitress who will support him in various parts of the story.

Como en todo libro del género, muestra un entorno cruel con los personajes, donde la debilidad emocional se paga, y el uso de violencia y armas es un común. El final me pareció muy bueno, mostrando la crueldad de la vida y la persistencia que queda.
As in all books of this genre, it depicts a cruel environment for the characters, where emotional weakness is punished, and the use of violence and weapons is commonplace. I thought the ending was very good, showing the cruelty of life and the persistence that remains.
