Hace un tiempo intentaba coleccionar cómics mediante una colección definitiva de Marvel, entre las series que esperaba de esa colección, se encontraba Marvels, de la que muchos la catapultan entre los mejores cómics de la historia. Publicada originalmente en 1994. Siendo el guionista Kurt Busiek y el dibujante Alex Ross.

Some time ago, I was trying to collect comics through a definitive Marvel collection. Among the series I was hoping to find in that collection was Marvels, which many consider to be one of the best comics in history. Originally published in 1994, it was written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Alex Ross.

Sinopsis: Mediante el punto de vista de un periodista novato, llamado Phil Sheldon, veremos como Nueva York y el mundo, ven el ingreso de las “Maravillas” al mundo. Comenzando con las luchas entre Namor y la Antorcha Humana, veremos cada década desde los 40 's en que los Superhéroes comienzan a ser comunes en la vida. Y con ello sentimientos encontrados en la población.

Synopsis: Through the eyes of a rookie reporter named Phil Sheldon, we see how New York and the world view the arrival of the “Marvels.” Beginning with the battles between Namor and the Human Torch, we see each decade since the 1940s, when superheroes began to become commonplace in everyday life. And with that came mixed feelings among the population.

Si bien tiene solo 4 números, la serie logra resumir gran partes de los eventos que ocurrieron en los cómics de Marvel, entre ello: los primeros superhéroes, la Segunda Guerra Mundial con el Capitán América, el prejuicio a los X-Men, la adoración a los 4 Fantásticos, la amenaza de Galactus, etc.

Although it only has four issues, the series manages to summarize many of the events that occurred in Marvel comics, including: the first superheroes, World War II with Captain America, prejudice against the X-Men, the adoration of the Fantastic Four, the threat of Galactus, etc.

El mostrar los eventos desde los periodistas y el ciudadano a pie, permite entender a los ciudadanos, que se ven incapaces de rivalizar con los eventos que ocurren y solo pueden dejarse llevar por lo que hagan las “maravillas”, generando zozobra y miedo, e incluso odio. Por otro lado, Phil Sheldon, pasara por ese mismo proceso, buscando un equilibrio y al final agradecimiento, a los superhéroes.

Showing the events from the perspective of journalists and ordinary citizens allows us to understand the citizens, who find themselves unable to compete with the events that are taking place and can only be swept along by what the “wonders” do, generating anxiety and fear, and even hatred. On the other hand, Phil Sheldon goes through the same process, seeking balance and, in the end, gratitude towards the superheroes.

Y es que la serie hace énfasis en lo difícil que es relacionarnos con algo que no conocemos bien. Puedes aceptar que todo es generosidad o sacrificio, de parte de ellos, sin cuestionar nada, o crees que como mucho en la vida, haremos un juicio sin mayor detalle.

The series emphasizes how difficult it is to relate to something we don't know well. You can accept that everything is generosity or sacrifice on their part, without questioning anything, or you can believe that, as with most things in life, we will make a judgment without going into greater detail.

Es una buena historia, sin embargo lo que realmente destaca es el dibujo. Alex Ross hace un trabajo fenomenal para mostrar nuevos puntos de vista y encuadres de los famosos superhéroes, más desde el ciudadano común. Su arte le da el toque realista que necesita la serie. Pueden haber pasado los años, pero se siente un trabajo de la mayor calidad.

It's a good story, but what really stands out is the artwork. Alex Ross does a phenomenal job of showing new perspectives and angles of the famous superheroes, more from the point of view of the average citizen. His art gives the series the realistic touch it needs. Years may have passed, but it feels like a work of the highest quality.

Su fama es justa, es un excelente cómic, por lo que si te interesa este tipo de ficción, debes obligarte a leerlo. Muy recomendable.

Its fame is well deserved; it's an excellent comic, so if you're interested in this type of fiction, you should make yourself read it. Highly recommended.
