Parece increíble que hayan pasado 15 años desde la salida de Kick-Ass, aun recuerdo cuando pude leerla casi al año que se publicó, y lo fresco que me pareció, aun cuando las películas de Marvel no llegaban a ser tan masivas, como llegaron a ser. Este tomo recopilatorio se publicó en 2010, siendo el escritor Mark Millar y el dibujante John Romita Jr.
It seems incredible that 15 years have passed since Kick-Ass came out. I still remember reading it almost a year after it was published, and how fresh it seemed to me, even though Marvel movies weren't as massive then as they have since become. This compilation volume was published in 2010, written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita Jr.
Sinopsis: Dave Lizewsky, es un adolescente que vive una vida rutinaria escolar y con fracasos en el amor, siendo lo único que le interesa, los cómics y sus protagonistas, los superhéroes. Tratando de darle un rumbo diferente a su vida, prueba algo arriesgado, tratar de ser un superhéroe en la vida real, con un traje verde, sin poderes pero con mucha voluntad. Es obvio que ese plan, se iba a encontrar con muchos retos.
Synopsis: Dave Lizewsky is a teenager who lives a routine school life and fails at love. The only things that interest him are comics and their protagonists, superheroes. Trying to change the course of his life, he attempts something risky: trying to be a superhero in real life, wearing a green suit, without powers but with a lot of willpower. It is obvious that this plan will encounter many challenges.

El cómic sitúa la acción en Nueva York, en una época(previo a 2008) que la viralización y los memes, comenzaron a llenar las redes con videos. Esto es importante, pues luego de una de sus incursiones nocturnas Dave Lizewsky, con su alter ego disfrazado Kick-Ass, acaba siendo viralizado en un video luchando contra maleantes. Ello tendrá una influencia inesperada, y que pronto se le saldrá de las manos.
The comic book sets the action in New York, at a time (prior to 2008) when viral videos and memes began to fill social media. This is important because after one of his nighttime escapades, Dave Lizewsky, with his alter ego Kick-Ass in costume, ends up going viral in a video fighting thugs. This will have an unexpected influence, and will soon get out of hand.
Llegado a ese punto, los problemas comenzarán a acumularse, con nuevos personajes, nuevos enemigos y lo más importante, lo que parecía ser algo riesgoso pero medible, alcanzará unos niveles inesperados de insania y locura. El cómic no se mide para mostrar momentos violentos y sangrientos, al igual que con sus momentos satíricos.
At that point, problems will begin to pile up, with new characters, new enemies, and most importantly, what seemed to be risky but manageable will reach unexpected levels of insanity and madness. The comic does not shy away from showing violent and bloody moments, just as it does not shy away from satirical moments.

La historia si bien es lineal y no hay pierde, tiene unos cuantos secretos y giros guardados, dando espacio para sorprenderse. No creo que se deba buscar muchas enseñanzas o mensajes, simplemente dejarse llevar por el despliegue visual y las situaciones bizarras.
Although the story is linear and there is no getting lost, it has a few secrets and twists in store, leaving room for surprise. I don't think you should look for many lessons or messages, just let yourself be carried away by the visual display and the bizarre situations.
En el apartado visual, más allá del lado sangriento, los diseños y los momentos de acción funcionan mucho, se nota la experiencia del dibujante, con un estilo más que pulido.
Visually, beyond the gore, the designs and action sequences work very well, showcasing the artist's experience with a more than polished style.

El punto malo, es que tras ya casi dos décadas de superhéroes en los cines y como series, ya casi todo se ha visto del tema, y si ya has visto cosas como The Boys o Deadpool, ya no te sorprenda cómo pudo haberlo hecho.
The downside is that after almost two decades of superheroes in movies and TV series, we've seen almost everything there is to see on the subject, and if you've already seen things like The Boys or Deadpool, you won't be surprised by anything here.
Si ya viste las películas, igual te recomiendo leer los cómics. A los demás, si te gusta la premisa, y ese carácter violento, dale una oportunidad.
If you've already seen the movies, I still recommend reading the comics. For everyone else, if you like the premise and the violent nature of it, give it a try.
