Use Common Sense

Personally, I feel one of the most misleading quotes out there is "Do not judge a book by its cover" especially when it has to do with human appearances and their behaviour.

I'm trying to look for the perfect words to describe this, but to me, I feel like trying not to judge a book by its cover is almost like trying to ignore common sense, not caring for your safety and just diving into things first, experiencing it for yourself before knowing if that thing is good or bad for you...to me, that is nothing but foolishness.

It's almost like walking towards a madman to ask him if he's truly mad, even though you could clearly tell from his appearance and attire that something is definitely wrong with him.

And yes, I know that in today's world, people dress crazy and maybe there might be one out of every ten guys who dresses like that who isn't mad, but the truth is that you probably would have gotten beaten up by the nine other mad men just because you didn't want to judge something by their appearance (their cover).

Forgive me for saying this, but in as much as there has been a lot of cases where people have been judged wrongly based on their covers, it is safer doing that and then approaching them cautiously to confirm if your judgement is right or not, than just throwing caution to the wind and not caring about the fact that they do look like mad men.

The other day, I saw a video online where a group of guys who had ski masks on, would run towards a person, giving them the impression that they're about to be robbed, only to maybe give that person some cash instead. I went to comment section and everyone were just talking about how its never good to judge a book by its cover and I was shocked.

How am I suppose to not judge and think that I'm about to be robbed when I see five, six guys running towards me with ski masks on their faces? Am I suppose to think that they're friendly? When we already know that in general, ski masks are used in robbery...

Honestly, I just feel like the world is just being too woke and that might lead to a lot of people getting hurt by things they easily could have avoided.

At the end of the day, my honest advise is to judge a book by its cover, but always give them the benefits of doubt while approaching with caution. In other words, don't just walk up to someone dressed up like a mad man to ask him if he's mad. If you must ask, make sure there's a safe distance between you two, so that you can quickly run to safety if he truly turns out to be an aggressive madman.

I agree with not judging book by looks or cover. But when it comes to safety and security there should be no chance of doubt. We need to be on safe side and in that case we can't take risk.

We're almost saying the same thing. Just because you don't judge a book by its cover doesn't mean you should do certain stuff without caution.
