Tell no Lies

Some few days ago, I was at home when I got a call from a friend, telling me to lock my door because the police were currently at our hostel. Apparently, this guy who also happens to be a barber, has just gotten out of his room, on his way to his shop when two officers stopped him at the staircase, demanding to know what he had in his bag. Luckily for him, all that was in it were his clippers and tools he uses to cut hair.

So he had immediately called us who were still in the hostel to be careful and to be on the lookout. Immediately I was done on the phone with him, I had quickly called out to my next door neighbour, whose door was wild open, trying to relay the same information I just got to him.

Surprisingly, for some dumb reason, this guy who I was trying to help avoid getting arrested felt I was lying or joking for some reason, and instead of locking his door like I was hoping he would, he had gotten up and walked outside of his room to check for himself if the police were truly outside.

I saw this, ignored him and remained inside until about an hour later when I was certain that the coast was clear. Then I came outside and everyone were talking about it. Apparently the police had done a search in the room of some of the guys downstairs before leaving, without even telling them what they were searching for.

While everyone was talking about this, I had looked over at the neighbour I had earlier asked to stay inside and I could tell from the look on his face that he was saying a silent prayer to his God, thanking his stars that those officers didn't see him to arrest him.

He eventually told me that he had felt I was lying about them being around so I had given him a very clear warning, telling him that lying with something like that is the last thing I would ever do because the last thing I want is someone not taking me serious when I tell them that I've been arrested or I need help about something concerning the police.

That is a very expensive joke or lie that I cannot afford to make, especially not in a place like this.

I think it's a sensitive issue in your area and even if someone lies about it, one must stay careful and believe in it, as it won't cost if a lie but it will cost a lot if it's the truth.

Well one would think that someone like that would have the common sense to think this way, but I guess not. He would rather risk his life just to prove that he isn't scared of a "joke"
