Same Me, Different Versions
Last night, I was on tiktok, when I saw a video whose content was basically about how different people have different versions of someone in their mind...and I couldn't agree more with that video because as it turns out, people do have different versions of me in their mind.
I remember back in the day when I had a roommate and people would tell him that I was too quiet and don't like to talk to people.. Whenever he tells me something like that, we both will always laugh about it because no matter how hard he tries to let them understand that he's the quiet one, and that I was the one who at one point had to force him to try to socialize with people, they never seem to believe him.
Another instance where I found out people had a different version of me in their mind was something that happened recently.
You see, I live in a very small area that is more or less a little village, so basically everyone knows everyone here. They might not know you by name or any personal stuff about you, but if someone, let's say the police were moving around with your picture, asking people where they could locate you, I'm sure it wouldn't take them up to fifteen minutes before they get to your door because around here, someone knows someone that knows someone that knows you.
Anyways, I recently found out that a lot of people around here see me as an internet fraudster. When I heard it from someone, I had quickly told them that wasn't true because the last thing I want is people saying things that aren't true about me, especially something as dangerous as that because all it takes is for the wrong person hearing that and I might find myself behind bars.
Apparently, it turned out that most people think that about me because of the fact that I'm always at home and don't physically have a job but instead I'm always on my phone all the time, so they all just automatically assumed that me being on my phone all the time clearly means that I'm into the business of duping people.
It's a crazy assumption, especially in a time like this where people are making millions online just with their mobile phone, but I guess seeing how defrauding people is one of the most committed crimes around here, I see why it is easy for people to quickly come to that conclusion.. It's crazy but also understandable.
Anyways, being seen as a quiet guy who also happens to be an internet fraudster is two of the many other versions of myself that people have in their mind around here.
