Growing Up

In this world, there are different people, different characters, and different behaviors. This is something everyone knows, but unfortunately, I used to think that regardless of how different people are, you could always shape them to be how you want them to be towards you.

Now, while that statement isn't entirely wrong, I've come to realize that there are certain times when we just have to take people for who they are and not try to mold them into the kind of person that we prefer.

A while ago, I got into an altercation with this guy at camp. This person is supposed to be my friend, but the closer I got to him, the more I realized how childish he was. It turns out that this guy happens to be one of those people who have been protected by his parents all his life, and this camp was basically his first time leaving home.

So it became pretty obvious that he wasn't mature yet in certain aspects of his life, and the way he spoke made it very obvious. And being the kind of person that I am, I decided to do what I felt was right, to tell him about what I've noticed, while hoping he would take correction and change.

After all, I figured the kind of maturity that he needed wasn't the type you read in books, but the kind you learn through day-to-day conversations with people all over.

Well, after the first piece of advice, I decided not to advise him anymore due to how poorly he took it. But then it didn't take long for us both to have an issue because he kept acting like himself, which was being childish, and it just didn't sit well with me.

I couldn't leave because we both had been asked to stay in the same location at camp for the remainder of our days here. Well, fast forward to the next day, and I vowed never to say anything about his behavior or interfere with anything concerning him anymore, and surprisingly everything has been fine ever since.

It made me realize that not everybody needs help. Some people are fine the way they are, and while some might get lucky and eventually grow up, others get stuck that way for a very long time and only end up growing up when it's almost too late.
