Being Confrontational
The old me has always believed in the whole "If you're wronged by someone, approach them and try to straighten it out". I've always felt like that was the best way to move forward, but if there's something I later realized after doing that for a while, it is that while that approach to things might be good for you, other people don't always see it that way.
Some of them end up having a grudge with you, and sometimes they don't tell you about it (because they aren't as open as you are), and most times you end up finding out when it's too late, or when you find yourself in trouble, and they refuse to help.
A few weeks ago, while I was still in camp, the guys back at the school hostel where I used to stay had informed me that the caretaker was going around, telling people lies about me. Telling them that I was claiming to be the only person who had his shit figured out and that without me, the hostel wasn't moving forward.
It was a ridiculous claim, one I probably would have confronted him about if I were at home. But for some reason, being away from that place and trying to survive where I was made me realize that that was the least of my problems.
But fast-forward to about a month later, and I'm finally back home, only for the same guy who was going about spreading lies about me to act like he has done nothing. He obviously doesn't know that everyone else had told me what he said, hence the reason he's still acting like he's one of my best buddies.
But unlike my usual self, I had decided not to talk to him about it, but I must admit, watching him act like he wasn't literally talking rubbish about me a couple of weeks ago kind of amazes me. It makes me wonder how many times he had gone behind me to do something against me, only to come act like a good friend right in front of me.
It's things like this that make you see someone for who they are and just make you know who truly are your friends and who isn't.
