A Good Competition

If there's one thing every consumer or customer should pray for, I feel it should be that whatever shop they frequent or go to to buy stuff should have a good enough competitor to keep them in check.

Over here, there's this shop where you can go pay them to help you charge your appliances. And when you live in a country that still struggles with a steady electricity supply, a business like that is almost like gold because there are days when we've gone weeks without having any power supply and had to rely heavily on shops like that.

Unfortunately, this one shop, which also happens to be the only shop around here (that specializes in the same business) that opens on a Sunday, has very nasty customer service. The workers are so rude that I've heard at least five people that I know vow never to go back there.

And most times they try to keep to their word; they try every other shop during the weekdays, but unfortunately, when it gets to Sunday and there's nowhere else to charge their gadget, they're faced with a very tough decision: either to go back to the shop they vowed they wouldn't go to, or they just stay back and have their phones and gadgets all switched off.

And I feel like the people at that shop know this; they know they don't really have strong competition, which is why they keep on behaving the way they do. I know this for a fact because for a short period of time, someone else had opened a shop right next to theirs, offering the same services as them, but unfortunately, they didn't stay open for long because the owner of the other shop had immediately reduced the prices of everything in his shop to drive them out of business.

He knew that no matter how rude his workers were, people would always ignore that as long as his services and products were cheaper, and he wasn't wrong.

This is why it is very important for there to always be strong competition in businesses, because it helps keep everyone in check.
