A Friend in need

Today is probably the first time a guy my age walked up to me, almost close to tears, to ask me for help on how he can stop an addiction.

They say the first step to solving a problem is first admitting that you do have a problem, but what they don't tell you is that sometimes, that's the easiest part, because what comes next is mostly always difficult, it all just depends on what the problem is.

The guy who came to me had a betting problem, and I know I've spoken about how gambling (most especially online sport betting) has caused a lot of damages to our youths, due to how addictive it is, this is my first time someone who's willing to change but finds it really difficult has come to me for help.

Although I was a little bit surprise why he came to me because it wasn't like I was an expert in that field or anything, but apparently, that dude had used all of his money to gamble earlier today.

According to the story he told me, he said he had made some money from work the previous day, money he planned to use for his feeding throughout this weekend because he usually works Mondays to Fridays, but earlier today being Saturday, he had spent the entire thing on a kind of sport betting known as Visual.

He had used all of it, then he went ahead to ask his friends for money and after they borrowed him some money, he still went ahead to use it too. It was both a sad and funny story for me, sad because I knew this was a guy really struggling from a very difficult addiction, but funny because how can someone be that dumb.

But then again, if you've never been addicted to anything, then you wouldn't really know how difficult these things can be. How hard it is to say no to the urge and not do what every vein in your body is asking you to do. It's a good example of the quote "the mind is willing but the flesh is weak" because your mind knows doing that thing is bad for you, but your body is too weak to resist.

Trust me when I say it's a terrible thing for anyone to go through. Unfortunately I couldn't help this guy and I feel like if he doesn't find a way to work on that addiction as soon as possible, he might find himself in a much more bigger problem than he currently is in, because if there's one thing I know, it is that no form of addiction is good.

Betting is now the new Curse in Nigeria, Once you start playing it takes only the grace of God to Stop, even people that are not up to 12 years old are playing Visuals, Bet9ja and co are raking billions in revenue from Nigeria Now,
It's so sad that this is what the Bad economy is driving the youth into,
The only thing that young dude can do is to avoid anything bet, he should try to start a new habit and hubby engagement, May God Help Him

Gambling is not a good thing and it's known to all. Getting out from any kind of addiction is not easy but if one are determined it's possible and if that person have some good friend, it can be easier.
