Venari Wavesmith & Swamp Spitter: A Defensive Duo

Hello, gamers. In many Splinterlands battles, we rely on a few strong units to deal most of the damage or carry us. But in many cases, it is equally, if not more, important to have a defensive approach and expect a strong opponent. This way, you can spend that crucial mana on increasing defensive strength as well as attacking ability. I have a duo which helps me a lot of times in my lineups. Today, I will be talking about them in this post.
Let's see which two units I am talking about.

Venari Wavesmith

Venari Wavesmith is one of my most used units because it is a well-balanced unit that you can use with just a 5 mana cost. Dealing 2 magic attack damage and giving 2 armour to all its units is no joke. Sometimes, I use it just for its 'Protect' ability alone, and it's still worth the mana investment.

Swamp Spitter

Swamp Spitter is another unit with balance stats. It deals 3 ranged attack damage and comes with 2 base armour. It justifies its 7 mana cost with the 'Repair' ability that complements Venari Wavesmith's 'Protect' ability. I will show you how both of them can make the frontline very secure and increase my defences.

My Lineup & Strategy
This is my lineup for the battle
The ruleset for this game was "What Doesn't Kill You", which gave all the units the enrage ability, so it was even important to have extra armour and a way to repair them if I wanted to last longer and win.
Keyla Frendul was my summoner for that very purpose. It not only gave an extra armour but also increased the speed of all my units. That is extremely effective against melee attackers, which I was expecting my opponents to use because of the ruleset. Also, I just had two active elements, water and fire, so I didn't have too much freedom in summoner selection.

Chain Golem was my tank in this lineup. It came with 'Shield' and 'Void' abilities, both of which made it last even longer. Its good base armour and health were a deciding factor in choosing this unit for my tank. It can also deal melee attack, so it would take advantage of the ruleset.
Flying Squid also dealt 3 melee attack damage and comes with the 'reach' ability, so it can be used in the second position as well. I went with it to utilise the ruleset to the fullest.
Djinn Oshannus was the first mage in the lineup, dealing 2 magic attack damage and had some cool abilities. The void ability works well against magic attackers, and I was expecting my opponent to use some mages as well.
Runemancer Kye was placed to utilise the high mana we had in this lineup. It was one of the strongest units in the lineup with great attacking and defensive abilities.
Venari Wavesmith and Swamp Spitter were used in the last two places as they work well together. While Venari Wavesmith gives extra armour to all the units, Swamp Spitter repairs the armour of the unit that took the most damage, thus making them last even longer. You can see from the following battle video how these two worked in tandem to give me a good win.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

Conclusion
The above battle shows how defensive strategy is as important as offence. Sometimes, winning is not about hitting the hardest but protecting your units from getting hit and lasting longer than your opponent.
