Steel Soul Progress: Ready to Face the Hollow Knight

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I am trying to get the rarest achievement in Hollow Knight. I have started a new game mode called Steel Soul mode, where you cannot revive, and death is permanent. This makes it quite a challenge. I don't recommend it to anyone who hasn't played the game a lot and knows about all its secrets and boss fights. In the last post I shared how I defeated two Dreamers and now just need to get one more Dreamer and then fight Hollow Knight to get the easy ending for this game.

But before going for the third dreamer and fighting an annoying boss fight, I wanted to get some more charms and mask upgrades. A nice charm that can help in some specific boss fights is the Shape of Unn. For this charm, I had to cross the Lake of Unn (which I can because I can swim in acid now). You find a mysterious higher being here which spits out this charm.

There is a nailmaster in Greenpath. He teaches us Nail Art, but I don't use them while fighting, but I had to do it as they count towards the 100% goal count and to get the final achievement, I have to not only kill the Hollow Knight but also increase my game completion to 100%.

Another nail art can be learned from the Nailmaster Mato in the Howling Cliffs. Each one gives me 1% completion, which is not bad in exchange for just some geo.

While I was here, I defeated the dream warrior Gorb as well. I believe this also gives me 1 more percentage towards that completion and is a really easy fight. If something goes wrong you can also run away so it wasn't very risky.

This fight reminded me of another Dream boss. One of the earliest bosses in the game, False Knight, has a dream version as well. Which has quicker moves and deals double damage than the normal one. Thankfully, the game doesn't consider you dead when you die in the dream. I couldn't defeat it in the first try, but on the second one, I did it.

This fight reminded me that I still have one more nail upgrade to do. For that upgrade, I need 3 pale ore. One of them is in the second trial in the Colosseum of Fools.

Since I wasn't there before, I had to complete both the first and second back to back. The first one gave me a precious charm notch. Exactly what I needed.

I love the way those spectators shower you with Geos at the end of the trial.

I did not even attempt the third trial, it doesn't give me any good reward and is so much harder that I can die there.

While I was on the kingdom's edge, and fairly strong. It was time for the Hornet fight again. This time, Hornet is much stronger with more health and a tougher arena. This could have easily been my end for this run if I had not been careful.

I never defeated her on my first try. If I die the run would be over that would mean I would start again from scratch. But the reward for fighting her was too good. Access to the Abyss is not a small thing. You can get the shade clock there which helps a lot in fighting those Watcher Knights that I hate so much.

I was very close, on one mask shard, but I recovered well and defeated her. Phew! That was too close for my poor heart.

After getting the King's Brand as my price, I went straight to the Abyss to first upgrade my spell on the left of the pit and then get the Shade cloak towards the right side.

This Shade Cloak unlocks some more parts of Hallownest. One of them is in the Queen's Garden, where you fight the Traitor Lord. I wasn't too confident in this fight either. It was a bit of a risk, too. But Cloth helped me get through the fight.

I defeated two more dream warriors, Galien and No Eyes from Deepnest and Greenpath, respectively.

I went and got the Sharpshadow charm from the Deepenest, too. It can work well in the Hollow Knight fight and Watcher's Knight fight as well. But my primary aim for getting it was to make another percentage progress in the game. I think every charm is 1 more percentage progression.

I made a ton of progress, defeated a lot of bosses. Happy with how things went against Hornet and Traitor Lords. I consider them tough fight.

I got a lot of charms now, and a couple more mask shards and vessel fragments. There were some close calls but you have to take that kind of risk in this run. Next, I will be going straight for Watcher's Knight and then to fight the Hollow Knight boss.

Wish me luck!

Until next time...

I love the background and graphic; it's so cute. Can we play this on Android?

No, it's on most major platforms not for phones yet unless you want to try an unofficial port made by a fan. But the touch controls will be hell for this game not easy even with a proper controller lol

So, do you use controller? I thought this game is very simple.

Yeah, I use a controller. I don't think it is a 'simple' game. On the contrary, quite complex and deep once you get into it. It starts as a simple-looking game, but as you progress, you get one ability after the other, like dash, double jump, wall jump, super/crystal dash and along with many unique boss fights and platforming challenges + amazing lore and music make it very complex.

The video talking about its Lore is more than an hour long lol.

From what I've seen, it's a 2D game. Although I initially thought it was a pixel game. The graphics of this game are very nice. Although I can't play it now, I think it's a lot of fun.

I really liked your post. You have shared the experience of this game very well, I have no experience of playing this game but after reading your post I can understand it. You have presented your every step in this game very nicely. I like the graphics quality of this game especially the background graphics which are really admirable. I hope to get more posts from you on this game in the coming days.😊
