Low Speed, High Impact: Spirit Druid Grog Strategy

Hello, gamers. Hope you all are doing well. Many interesting abilities in Splinterlands help you in battles, and everyone has their own favourites among these abilities. I have written about some of my favourite rulesets and abilities. Today, I will talk about one such ruleset which I love and gets good results. I am talking about the Reverse Speed Ruleset, which makes the lowest speed unit attack first and have the highest chance to evade attacks.

This makes all the units with low speed extremely good. There is a specific unit that is really good in this ruleset. But it could be risky to use it. I am talking about Spirit Druid Grog. Let's look at its stats in detail.

Spirit Druid Grog

CARD
RARITY
Legendary
ELEMENT
Earth
Attack Type
Magic
MANA COST
5
ABILITIES/BUFFS
Ressurect, Life Leech (at level 2)

Why I chose to highlight this unit in this ruleset is because of its seemingly bad raw stats, coming with just 1 health and 1 speed. On the surface, it looks pretty bad to have this at the cost of 5 mana. But when the ruleset is reverse speed, it can be extremely effective. Having two of my favourite abilities on the same unit is no small feat. Resurrect and Life Leech make it good in this case. It also deals magic attack damage, which is a big benefit as well. So, if you can place it somewhere in the middle or/and add some extra armour, it can stay alive longer because of this life leech ability.

I will show you how it works perfectly in the reverse speed ruleset.

My Lineup & Strategy

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Legionnaire Alvar
Position 1
Oaken Behemoth
Position 2
Mycelic Slipspawn
Position 3
Spirit Druid Gorg
Position 4
Goblin Pyschic
Position 5
Regal Peryton

As I already told you, the ruleset was Reverse Speed, and the mana cap was 57, which was enough to get some heavy hitters in my lineup.

I went with Obsidian as my summoner, as I wanted my lineup to be filled with mages that can deal a lot of damage quickly.

Legionnaire Alvar was my first tank in this lineup. It comes with a lot of armour and void armour ability that makes it last longer on the battlefield. It had only 2 speeds as well, which meant good chances of missing attacks on him.

Oaken Behemoth was used as a great source of damage. It deals both melee and magic attack damage and packs a big punch. Comes with reach ability, so it can be used from this position and that extra armour is great to have with void armour ability, just like the first unit. Its speed is not too high, which is good for this situation.

Mycelic Slipspawn was another unit that served as a good source of magic damage. Its taunt ability is going to save my Spirit Druid Gorg in the next position, which has very low base health. As the enemy team attacks Mycelic Slipspawn, Druid Grog will get more health leeched out and will be much better as the game progresses.

Goblin Psychic was a perfect candidate for this ruleset, it comes with only 1 speed and has tank heal and affliction abilities, both super useful during the battle. That 1 speed made it really good in this lineup.

One unit that didn't fit with the ruleset was Regal Pertyon, as it has an extremely high base speed. But I used this for its high base magic damage, which is not bad considering only a 5 mana cost.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

As you can see from the battle, my lineup performed well. The frontline absorbed all the initial pressure while Spirit Druid Gord got healthier and dodged a lot of enemy attacks because of its speed. It was up to 6 max health in the third round and stayed till the end of the battle. That is the power of this card in this lineup. It won't be able to pull this alone. It was a team effort in the end.

Conclusion

This battle reminded me why Life Leech is one of my favourite abilities in the game. Understanding how the ruleset works can help you win more battles, and how a unit with seemingly bad base stats can be extremely good in a specific ruleset.

What do you think about the ruleset and the highlighted unit? What are your favourite rulesets that are fun to play?
