22 Rounds Later: Gobson Bomber Became My Hero

Hello guys, I have started playing Splinterlands again. The first few days were tricky to navigate. The new UI, although an improvement over the last one, took some time to get used to. The battle screen has changed as well, with new filters and ways to choose your favourite monsters and summoners at the start of the battle. I am liking those changes. Some of them are definitely improving the quality of life in-game.
I will share one of the longest battles I had in the last few days. It became a stalemate at the end, which lasted for 22 rounds until the Fatigue damage kicked in and gave me a victory. I want to share this because of this interesting stalemate situation that developed over the battlefield.
I have to talk about a card which I always thought was useless because of one specific ability. But this battle managed to change its view in my eyes.
Let's start by looking at its stats.

Gobson Bomber

Gobson Bomber, as I said, was never my favourite unit. On paper, it seems like just an average unit costing 7 mana and dealing only 2 ranged attack damage. It doesn't have a lot of health as well with only 5 health at level 4 and 3 speed. But the ability which made me not use this unit for a long time is its Recharge ability, which doesn't deal damage every round but deals 3x damage every other round. That 3x damage is extremely powerful if it works. Its camouflage ability makes it stay hidden and secure at the end of the lineup.

My Lineup & Strategy
This is my lineup for the battle
It was a high mana cap battle with the Rise of the Common ruleset, which meant we could only summon common or rare units in this battle. This was one of the reasons that allowed me to experiment with my lineup.
Mylor Crawling was my summoner because I saw that my opponent was using a lot of melee attackers in their recent battles. I don't rely too much on the history, but it is a good summoner which gives Thorns to all my units. It is very effective against melee attackers.

At the front of the lineup, I had two powerful and reliable units in the form of Unicorn Mustang and Mycelic Slipspawn. Both are highly capable of taking quite a beating before running off the battlefield. A strong front line is always better. Mylor Crawling also had Void ability, which made it an effective tank even against magic attackers.
In the middle of the lineup, I had two relatively weaker units, in terms of health. But very crucial in terms of dealing damage and supporting the frontline. Goblin Psychic comes with a Tank Heal ability that makes the first unit last even longer by providing healing after every round.
At the end of the lineup, I had two units dealing ranged attack damage. These two made that stalemate possible for a while. Venari Seedsmith's Scavenger ability gave it some extra health, which absorbed the hits towards the end of the battle, while Gobson Bomber kept dealing 3x amount of its base damage every other round.
Let me show you how it all unfolded.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.
You can see how the thorns' ability given by the summoner proved very crucial and helped me get an early advantage. Unicorn Mustang survived the onslaught for almost 3 full rounds, and that was the game-changer. Gobson Bomber's powerful strike, taking down the opponent's Captain's Ghost, was a major success in round 4.
While it looked like a certain win at round 6, my opponent's repair ability made it almost impossible to get that final blow. It was a dead draw for multiple rounds until at round 21, the Fatigue damage kicked in, which directly attacked the health of each unit, ignoring any armour. That is what gave me the win.

Conclusion
As you just saw in the above video, it was going to be a stalemate despite my having two units. But the fatigue kicked in and granted me a win. I think draw and win by fatigue activation are both rare in splinterlands. I don't see a lot of such battles personally. Whenever it happens to me, I get so invested in it. One of the things I like about this game is how they try to balance the game, constantly adding new abilities, which makes it possible to have countless combos and synergies. In a format like Wild, you cannot be prepared for everything because anything can happen with such a number of cards and abilities. I am happy that I was at the winning end of that battle.
Let me know your thoughts about this battle and how often your games are decided with fatigue damage.
