The Future of Tech in Three Years: My Totally Unscientific but Possibly Accurate Prediction
You know how sometimes you look back three years and think, Wow, so much has changed… and then other times you think, Wait, wasn’t 2020 like… last year? Time is a strange thing. But one thing I’m pretty sure about is that three years from now, the way we live, work, and even argue on the internet will look very different, mostly because of AI.
Right now, AI is already everywhere. It is in our phones, our social media feeds, even in the way our email predicts what we are about to type. But in three years, I think we will stop talking about AI as some separate thing, and it will just be life. Nobody says “I am going to use the internet” anymore, they just use it. AI is heading in that same direction. It will not be a special tool; it will just be part of everything.
One of the biggest changes I see coming is in the way we work. I am not saying offices will vanish completely, but the whole idea of going to work is going to feel different. AI will take over a lot of the boring, repetitive stuff like scheduling, data entry, research, and even basic content drafts. Humans will focus more on the parts that need creativity, strategy, or empathy. And there will be this new kind of professional, people who know exactly how to talk to AI to get the best results. These AI whisperers might just be the next big career stars.
The way we find information will change too. Google search, at least the way we know it, might be on life support by then. More and more people will skip search engines and just ask AI assistants for answers. Instead of typing “best pizza near me,” you might just say, “I am craving something cheesy but not too greasy, and I have got $15,” and the AI will suggest the perfect spot, maybe even order it for you. It will save time, but I think we might lose some of that random magic of stumbling upon unexpected stuff while browsing.
Content creation will be on a whole new level. Right now, we still think of making movies, games, or music as something that requires a big team or expensive equipment. In three years, you could sit in your bedroom and produce a professional quality video just by describing your idea. If you wanted a cooking show where a raccoon teaches you how to bake banana bread, you would not need cameras or actors, just a laptop and an imagination. The tricky part will be figuring out what is real and what is AI generated, but honestly, most people will care more about whether it is entertaining than how it was made.
I also think the line between online and offline life will blur even more. Smart glasses or similar devices could finally go mainstream. Imagine walking down a street and seeing restaurant reviews floating over each building, or talking to someone in another language and having subtitles appear in real time. It is exciting, but a little unsettling. Some people might end up living more in the digital overlay than in reality, seeing a version of the world that has been polished and filtered by technology.
Privacy is another big one. Right now, we hand over personal data for convenience without thinking much about it. But in three years, privacy might become a luxury people are willing to pay for. AI will know so much about us, our habits, moods, even our health, that protecting that information will be a big deal. Ironically, AI itself could be the thing that guards our data, acting like a personal security system for our digital lives.
Education is going to change completely too. Every student could have their own AI tutor, personalized to their learning style. If you are struggling with math, the AI might explain it using basketball examples because it knows you love sports. If you are learning history, it could take you on a virtual walk through ancient Rome instead of just showing you a textbook page. The danger is making sure this technology is not only available to those who can afford it, because that would make the gap between the rich and poor even bigger.
Creativity will become more valuable than ever. When machines can do almost everything faster and cheaper, the human advantage will be in the things that need taste, emotion, and cultural understanding. AI might write a song, but it will not understand the exact reason a lyric can make someone cry unless we teach it. People who know how to use AI to create something unexpected will be the ones shaping the future.
Of course, there is also the risk of getting too comfortable. AI will make life so convenient that we might start letting it do too much for us. We have already seen this with GPS, it has made travel easier, but now most people cannot navigate without it. Imagine that happening with writing, decision making, or problem solving. If we are not careful, we could lose some of our independent thinking skills.
So what will life feel like in 2028? My guess is that AI will be like electricity, everywhere, invisible most of the time, but powering almost everything we do. Life will be faster, more personalized, and probably more entertaining, but also more dependent on systems we cannot fully explain. Some people will thrive in this world, using AI as a partner to create things we cannot imagine today. Others will feel left behind or overwhelmed. And, just like in the early days of the internet, there will be hype, chaos, and a few scandals along the way.
The funniest part is that in three years, we will probably look back at the AI we are using today and laugh at how basic it was, the same way we laugh at those giant cell phones from the 90s. Whether I am excited or scared about this future really depends on the day. But maybe that is the point, the future is never just one thing. It is messy, unpredictable, and full of surprises. And that is exactly what makes it interesting.
If you have read this far, I am curious, what is your prediction for the next three years? Will AI be our best friend, our worst nightmare, or just another tool we forget we are even using? Because either way, it is coming, probably faster than we think.
