New XPeng G6 2025 Review | The Best Electric SUV Coupe?

avatar

Now I know what you're thinking - another Chinese car brand? Well, yes!

Thing is, since the massive push towards electrification (due to the EU Road to 2030) it's been no surprise that new brands are popping up - here in the UK, and elsewhere around the world. Reason being is that some big brands in China have already made huge inroads into electrified vehicles (BYD, for example) so it made sense for them to launch over here.

Which is why we've been sent this brand new G6 from XPeng. It's a fully electric SUV with one trim - this one - and two battery sizes that offer two ranges: around 270 miles for the standard and around 350 miles for the long range.

With prices that start at just under £40,000.00 for the standard, you get a lot of car for the money. Join us as we take a closer look.

Thank you all, and enjoy!
Annabelle 😊

Do you think the quality is up with the premium brands? Do they have more to offer than just a badge? The market has really changed in the last few years. I'll probably be looking to replace our ancient CRV with a smallish EV in the next few years.

XPeng and BYD and MG, etc. - they're all competing with each other in the UK now, and they can offer so much more for so much less that this will have the Legacy brands scrabbling to keep up. Mind you, it helps when they already have things like their own EV battery manufacturing plant like MG (SAIC) and BYD - and others. Did you know that BYD started out as a battery manufacturer in the mid '90's and made them for Nokia mobile phones?

What kind of EV are you thinking of, @steevc?

Now it's mostly just the two of us we could go for something smaller. The Mini is cute and may be enough. It seems most EVs have 200 mile range these days and we don't do many long drives. We will probably lease as things are changing rapidly.

BTW I read this article (needs you to register, but I read on dead tree). It tells how the Chinese invested in battery technology as they could not compete with conventional cars and now BYD is far bigger than Tesla. Seems Musk was caught out by their success.

Having two battery options and a range of up to 350 miles is great for anyone looking for a practical and reasonably priced car.
