New MG IM5
Ahhh, Goodwood Festival of Speed! It's THE car event of the year here in the UK, and even if you don't like cars in the way we do here at Planetauto, it's definitely worth a visit at least once in your lifetime.
Anyway, back to the point - being, the new MG IM5! It's a fully electric luxury saloon car, and it's chock full of tech and safety.
In China the IM brand are already established, but we've never heard of them here in the UK, so they will be called the MG IM5 - MG IM6 - and so on - here for brand recognition, and realistically, they are the luxury sub brand of MG, as they are all owned by SAIC. It's a bit like Genesis, who are the luxury arm of Kia and Hyundai.
So what makes this different, and why would you want to buy one of these instead of an MG? First and foremost, IM are luxury cars, so expect more refinement, higher levels of performance, more comfort, and in the IM5 and IM6's case, a greater driving range.
IM look to launch in the UK with six models - the first two being the IM5 electric saloon car and the IM6 electric SUV. The IM5 we are looking at here offers a driving range that starts at just over 300 miles, going up to over 500 miles in the city, depending on which model you go for (IM5 100 Long Range offers up to 441 miles combined, going up to 544 miles in a city environment)
We hope to get behind the wheel of one very soon, so in the meantime, join us as we take a closer look...
Thank you all, and enjoy!
Annabelle 😊
It looks expensive, but it also makes me think it would make a good taxi. I guess it could compete with Teslas in that role.
I've never been to Goodwood :(
I hope you get chance to go to Goodwood one year - it's definitely an experience. I absolutely love Goodwood Revival held in September 😍
This would make a good taxi, and you're right, it does look expensive, lol! Starts at £47,995.00 - a bit more than a Tesla Model Y starting price, but quite a few people have fallen out of love with Tesla of late, so they may start looking at these...
Thank you @steevc
I've heard that Teslas veer to the right :)
I went to FOS just after Covid, 2022 I think? I loved it and want to go back. Interesting to see this new model coming out. We had a 5 which turned out to be a disaster. We were just unlucky ours had a fault nobody could fathom. We ended up with a long term loan, the 4 which was really nice.
Oh wow, that is a weird one - nice having the 4 on long term loan though! Have you ever been to Revival?
