New KGM Musso Electric 2026
There are certain vehicles that quietly become favourites over the years, not because they shout the loudest or wear the flashiest badge, but because they get on with the job brilliantly. The KGM Muss (formerly the SsangYong Musso) has absolutely been one of those machines. Dependable, capable, surprisingly comfortable, and with that unpretentious charm that makes you think, “Yes… I could live with this.” And now, the Musso has appeared with a brand-new twist: it has gone fully electric. Huzzah indeed 😊
This new electrified Musso is, rather wonderfully, a proper 4WD pickup. Not all electric pickups give you that reassurance, that planted confidence when the weather turns interesting or you’re venturing off road. But here, you have an 80.6kWh battery paired with a 152.2kW drive motor, and an electric motor on each axle, delivering genuine four-wheel-drive capability. There are driving modes too – Eco for sensible cruising, Sport for when you want a bit of punch, and Winter for all those slippery mornings when the frost refuses to give you a break.
Inside, it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from KGM: a proper double cab, alloy wheels that feel suitably sturdy for a working pickup, and heated and ventilated seats as standard. Heated and ventilated seats. In a pickup. It feels fabulously indulgent and entirely welcome if you’re spending long stretches behind the wheel.
Now, let’s talk practicality, because that’s always where the Musso shines. The electric version can tow up to 1,800kg and carry 690kg. Yes, that is lower than the diesel variant, and yes, some people will raise an eyebrow. But when you remember that this electric Musso shares the powertrain with the Torres EVX, it all lines up. It’s a system optimised for efficiency, refinement, and electric capability rather than brute diesel strength. And, realistically, for many owners, this level of towing and payload will suit.
What’s more intriguing is that KGM has already hinted at the likelihood of strengthening those numbers in future generations. So we could well see towing and payload ratings creep closer to the diesel Musso’s talents later on—possibly with a fresh platform designed specifically for heavier EV work. For now, though, the electric Musso offers a very capable balance of quiet EV smoothness and practical utility.
Range is estimated at around 250 miles per charge when running in 2WD mode, which is more than enough for day-to-day use, commuting, site visits, and general pickup life. And if you do need to top up quickly, the Musso is absolutely ready for it. With a 300kW rapid charger, you can go from 10% to 80% in roughly thirty six minutes, while a 100kW charger does the same in about forty six minutes. Perfect for grabbing a coffee and a snack while the Musso replenishes its electrons. A Type 2 home charger will fill the battery from empty in around twelve hours, while an 11kW system knocks that down to around eight and three quarters, which is ideal for overnight charging.
At launch, the electric Musso comes in just one trim level, keeping things simple, and we’re expecting a starting price somewhere around £35,000 plus VAT. That figure isn’t confirmed yet, so we’re waiting for final numbers—but if it lands where KGM suggests, it could put the Musso in a very tempting position.
What makes this electric Musso especially appealing is that it doesn’t feel like a radical departure from the Musso we already know and love. It still feels rugged. It still feels ready to work. But now there’s this calm, quiet, electrically-driven confidence layered over the top of it. That combination gives the new Musso this lovely sense of being both familiar and forward-thinking—like meeting an old friend who’s suddenly mastered a whole new skill.
It’s a proper EV pickup with real-world usability, sensible running costs, that trademark KGM value, and a range of around 250 miles. And it does it all while keeping that Musso personality intact. We’ll have more details, including final pricing, as soon as they’re officially confirmed. For now, though, this electric Musso feels like something of a milestone—a pickup that doesn’t shout about being electric, but instead just gets on with things…
Thank you all, and enjoy!
