Sewing My Easter Gown With Elegant Side Gathers.

Good day lovelies

It's been a year since I last sewed due to my year of service to my country, and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I still had it in me. Last week, I serviced my machine and was thinking about what to make, but my imagination was running wild; what if I made a mistake cutting my clothes? Then, I would abandon it; I felt reluctant. A day to Easter Sunday, something inspired me to make a dress for church. I pulled out the piece of Ankara I had locked away and started cutting.

Sewing process

I started by folding my Ankara fabric and cutting the front and back pattern, I also cut out the pieces for the side gathers and sleeve

Next, I also cut my lining fabric and added interfacing to the Ankara fabric to give it more structure and hold. I love adding interfacing to a light fabric it makes it more neat and sharp after sewing.

For the front, I joined the burstier piece to the centre panel, both for the main fabric and the lining. Once both were assembled, I sewed the lining to the fabric.

For the back piece, I added a dart to the fabric and lining to give it a nice shape. After that, I loosely stitched in my zip allowance and shaped it to fit my body perfectly

Once the shaping was just right, I removed the loosed stitch and installed the zipper.

With the body of the dress ready, I finished the sleeves and attached them to the gown. I also stitched my side gathers to the dress. My Easter gown is ready.
