RE: The Safety Of The Players Needs To Be Prioritised

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

If players had something in their contract to say "Will only play maximum 30 league games" or "Will only play in q/final round and beyond" the clubs will have no choice. Some will say "but then clubs won't sign the player" but if a player like Rodri complains about how many games he plays - do you think Manchester City would sell him because he cannot play in the League Cup or FA Cup 3rd Round? If the top players do it, the rest will follow and young players might have more chances to play.

You made a valid point here on this topic. The players can also make that bargain in their contract, but will it be acceptable? That is the main point. This is why squad depth is important for teams to rotate players, but it rarely happens as every manager wants their best starting 11 to play.

I agree, it would be difficult to happen. Squad size could be a problem if a player says "I will only play 30 in the Premier League", the club would need to register another player to cover the other 8 games (or play a youth player).

On the plus side, it will stop the players and clubs blaming UEFA and FIFA for having too many matches!
