Prepare offerings for ancestors according to the tradition of Thai-Chinese people.

Hello friends, Thailand is currently in the Chinese New Year festival, and my wife’s family is Thai-Chinese. When this festival arrives, there must be preparations for ancestor worship, which is a tradition of Thai-Chinese people.

Today, I woke up at 4 am, which is different from the usual 3 am because my mother did not go to sell things like usual. My mother will stop selling things for three days. During this time, some behaviors have changed, so I did not run in the morning at all.

Today, according to Chinese tradition, is called the day of paying. After I woke up, I had to drive my wife to the market to buy ingredients, snacks, vegetables, fruits, and meat to prepare for tomorrow’s food, to offer to our deceased ancestors, according to Chinese beliefs.

There will be many people at the market, and when the economy is good, the vendors will sell well. When the economy is bad, everyone will save money, buy less, or choose to buy some alternatives that are cheaper. This year, the economy is not as good as it should be, but it is good that vegetables are not as expensive as every year.

Today is the day of paying, tomorrow is the day of worship, and the day after tomorrow is the day of travel. We haven’t decided where we will go to make merit yet. Normally, on the day of travel, we take our family to apply gold leaf to various temples.
