More Than Just A President—G20 Review

It’s been a long time since I watched a movie and felt like my heart was about to burst out of my chest.
I hadn’t heard of this movie before, maybe because it’s still very new. I came across it while casually streaming on my movie app. I was actually looking for a horror movie, but after scrolling for a while, nothing really caught my interest. So I decided to go with the one listed as the top watch of the week.

The title didn’t even sound like something I could relate with, but when I saw the female lead (y'all know the woman king:), I had a feeling it would be worth my time.

About The Movie

G20 is a 2025 political thriller produced by Andrew Lazar, Viola Davis, and Julius Lennon, starring Viola Davis in the lead role, alongside Anthony Starr, Anthony Anderson and other talented actors.

The movie’s central theme revolves around the weight of leadership and responsibility. The main lead shows what it truly means to be in power, not just through speeches or negotiations, but right in the middle of crisis.
This doesn’t mean that leaders are expected to be in war front, but it does highlight that they should be critical thinkers who are capable of making selfless decisions and sacrifices for the greater good of the public.

In this movie, Viola Davis wasn’t just “Madam President.” She was a mother, a strategist, a fighter , a woman trying to keep it all together while the world literally crumbled around her. And unlike many action heroes, she didn’t depend on brute forces, she relied on her wisdom and military training.

The Storyline

The movie begins with a stolen crypto wallet known as the MacGuffins.
Then it continues with a scene where Madam President grounds her teenage daughter, Serena, for hacking the home security system to sneak out clubbing. Photos of her in the club raised questions about what kind of family the president was raising. One of the reporters even asked how she could manage a whole country if she couldn’t control her own kids. This, I think, was to show viewers her struggle to balance being a national leader and a mother of two teenagers.

Things began to get more interesting when she traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, for a high-stakes G20 Summit attended by leaders from about 20 countries. The summit is attacked by a group of elite terrorists, led by a former Australian Special Forces soldier. Their attack is strategic, as they outsmart the security forces and bypass all the precautions put in place to protect the leaders.

These terrorists brutally forced the world leaders in hostage to read out specific messages, which were later altered with deepfake technology to sound like endorsements of the terrorists’ plans.

These deepfake videos of world leaders were then used by the terrorist to manipulate people into investing in cryptocurrency, allowing him to steal all the funds into his stolen crypto wallet. It was an uncommon kind of theft; digital, silent, and manipulative.

At some point, Madam President was left with no official security except her personal guard. She used her military training and instincts to find ways to escape and protect her family, as well as her people, who, at that time, weren’t even looking up to her for help. She’s just a woman in power, remember?
That aside, my biggest shock was finding out that the traitor , the one feeding the enemy from the inside, was someone very close to her. That twist left me speechless.

My Opinion

G20 is a movie I would watch over and over again. Like I said, it’s been a long time since a movie stirred this kind of feeling in me. The ending was so satisfying that I let out a heavy breath of relief and excitement.

The suspense was well-paced, and the light horror/thriller elements added to the tension without overdoing it.

I could feel love in so many forms , the loyal guard who kept his promise to protect the president, the husband who was ready to sacrifice himself for his wife and children, and the few allies who stood with her through the chaos. Her children also risked their lives , not just to save their mom, but to protect others too.

At several points, I got emotional. I couldn’t help but imagine what our world would be like if real-life leaders were like Madam President. Our countries would probably be in a much better place.

Recommendation

This is a must-watch movie. It carries a good message for both men and women and even teenagers.

If I had to be specific, I’d recommend it to fans of political thrillers, action dramas, and stories that highlight strong leadership, family, and courage in the face of crisis.
However, I would advise that some actions were a bit unrealistic, but come on! That’s why it’s called a movie:)
It's still a 10/10 for me.

Thanks for sticking around till the end!❤️
If you’ve already seen the movie, I’d love to know what you thought of it.
