A Wrap-Up Review on Vibes Week #39

avatar
Week 39 of the Vibes Web3 Music competition has officially come to a close, and what a beautiful week it was. The theme, "Favourite Movie Soundtracks",. took us on a nostalgic journey through time. From 90s classics to early 2000s hits, the community was filled with melodies that reminded us of movies we grew up watching and songs that still linger in our hearts today.

The competition has ended, and though the winners are yet to be fully decided, I’d like to take a moment to highlight some of the entries that stood out to me. These are performances I really, really liked, and I’m sure you will too. Interestingly, not all of them made it to the winners’ list, which shows just how competitive this week was.

This particular round felt more interesting than some of the previous weeks. The vocals and instrumentals from several artists were captivating and there were moments when I thought Week 39 deserved to be rated higher than any week before it:)

The first on my list is @mvbakeyscover of Lift Me Up by Rihanna. This song is very popular and well-loved and honestly, I would have skipped it since I’ve heard it countless times. But his vocals drew me in and kept me listening all the way to the end. I feel his entry may have been a little overshadowed by others, which might explain why it didn’t get as much attention as it deserved. Still, for a very first post on Hive and his very first entry in the competition, it was such an impressive start. As the saying goes, one good turn deserves another, and I’ll gladly be on the lookout for more of his performances.

The artist on my list is @stefanovah

Stefanovah delivered a cover of Everything I Do (I Do It for You) by Bryan Adams. This is a song I loved deeply a few of years ago and I used to play on repeat, so hearing it again immediately struck a chord with me. His performance was full of passion and sincerity, and these probably are the qualities that make this song so timeless.

The next highlight is from @thesinging.chef, who performed Skyfall, the famous James Bond soundtrack originally sung by Adele.
One thing I noticed among the outstanding entries this week is how unique their vocal qualities were, so distinct that you can’t help but pay attention to the very end. Thesinging.chef really "cooked" his presentation with confidence and style, bringing out the drama and power that the song demands. It is one of those covers that reminds you why some voices stay with you long after the song ends.

Another highlight for me was @tenesha entry. Her choice of song was "Come Back Home" from the movie Purple Hearts, and her vocals instantly reminded me of Dolly Parton, one of the artists I admired in my teenage years. The timbr of her voice carried that same warmth and sincerity. I think after listening to her performance I couldn’t help but imagine her covering a Dolly Parton classic, any of it, and I’m sure the resemblance would be very very striking.

Final Thoughts
One observation from this week is the challenge that comes when the same song is performed by multiple artists. It often loses its impact for the audience after the first or second performance, unless the later versions bring something truly unique. This is not just in Vibes, but also in real-life competitions, the first performer often sets the standard and others risk being overlooked. In an online setting where it’s easy to skip or scroll past, this becomes even more obvious and disturbing. My advice for future participants is to always check past entries for the week before settling on a song, and if the song has already been done, find a way to make your version stand out.

That being said, I genuinely enjoyed so many entries this week even beyond the few I’ve highlighted. It’s impossible to mention them all here without leaving out several deserving artists. Thankfully, the winners’ list features 15 outstanding performances you can listen to, and maybe even cast your vote for your favourite.

Week 39 was nothing short of AMAZING. The theme brought out creativity, passion, and a flood of nostalgia. If you love music and you’re not yet part of the Vibes community, trust me you’re missing out on one of the most entertaining spaces on this blockchain.

Now we would be looking forward to Week 40. Round figures always carry a special kind of excitement, right? >><<. I can’t wait to see what the artists will bring to the stage next. In the meantime, let’s cast our votes and look forward to celebrating the winners in just a few days.
