Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun: round 194 (PLEASE SEE THE UPDATES!)

avatar
(Edited)

Hey there my Hive friends and followers!

Welcome to the 194th round of my special weekly photo challenge known as Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun :)

Important note: I have been hosting this challenge in the same format for almost 4 years but from this round on, there will be some major changes so please read all the updates below. The essence of this challenge stays the same though so the intro part will be the same as it was until now.

I know a lot of photo contests with nature as the main theme were/are/will be hosted by various people on the Hive blockchain but I wanted to come up with something more than just another photo contest where participants would submit their best natural photos. Therefore, I decided to go for quite an unusual concept that I am going to introduce in the following lines.

The aim of the Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun photo challenge is not to make you dig up your photo archives and submit the best pictures of nature that you have ever taken. Instead, I want you guys to go out and appreciate the beauty of our nature right now.

The internet (and the Hive blockchain as well) is flooded with picture perfect shots of landscapes, mountains, forests, beaches etc. taken years ago. But this is not what I want to see in this challenge. I want to see shots that may not be necessarily stunning but they must be fresh, proving that you have just physically spent some time outdoors in the fresh air. But remember that nature comes in many forms. It doesn´t have to be a pristine jungle or a deep remote forest. An urban park, a botanical garden, a little grove on the outskirts of your town - pretty much any place with some trees, plants, rocks, bodies of water or any other natural features would be just as fine ;)

HERE COME THE UPDATES

Originally, the prizes for the winners were just my full upvotes given to their entries but since, unfortunately, I lately had to power down significantly, my upvotes are not that big and motivating anymore so I decided to reward the winners of each round with additional 1.5 Hive each. So from now on, the winners gets my full upvotes on their entries plus 1.5 Hive each. All of the other valid entries will be rewarded with some smaller (usually 50%) upvotes too so that all participants get rewarded for their engagement in this challenge.

In the past, I usually hosted this challenge on Thursday but because of the reasons described below, I cannot guarantee that anymore so from now on, I may roll out the new round on Thursday, Friday or even Saturday so if you guys don´t want to miss out on the fun here, please check out my blog regularly.

Also, in the past, I always tried to lead by example and thus open each new round with my own fresh natural photo taken during the previous 7 days. However, as you might now from my recent posts, me and my wife are now taking care of our newborn baby and it takes just so much time and energy that I simply don´t have the time to go out and take fresh natural photos anymore (btw late autumn and winter here in Central Europe are not favorable seasons for natural photography anyway) so instead, I will be using my old photos from cool natural places around the world that I have been to. Hopefully, in a few months, I will be able to go out to nature regularly again and take a nice fresh picture for each round just like I did it over the years but before that happens, I will show you some beautiful natural places that I got to see during our travels. It will also be a nice way for me to remember and relive those moments from the times when it was just me and my wife, traveling around the world - happy, young and free :)

THE RULES

I want to keep the rules of this challenge as simple and benevolent as possible so let´s agree on just this:

Only one entry (photo) per person per round.

The photo must be yours and not older than 7 days.

Add a few lines about the photo (at least 50 words) including the date and location.

You can start submitting your entries to this round in the comment section below from now until the next round. If you want to create a separate post as your entry, you can do that but please always remember to submit your entry in the form of a comment here under this post as well. I only check the entries submitted here as comments.

Prior to publishing the next round, I will pick 3 winners, give my full upvotes on their entries and send them 1.5 Hive each as the prize. The winning entries will be featured in the next round of the challenge. I also give smaller upvotes on the other valid entries as I mentioned before.

So that´s it. Let me now open the new round of my photography challenge called Appreciate Beauty of Nature with @phortun :)

IMG_20190401_183235.jpg

It´s a very unusual feeling to post an old picture here but let´s start with a destination that was our temporary home for some 2 years and that will thus always hold a special place in our hearts. Mexico. We mostly lived in the lovely coastal town of Playa del Carmen on the famous Mayan Riviera but we visited a couple of amazing Mexican islands too. One of them was Holbox, a spectacular place known for wonderful white sand beaches, rich tropical fauna and flora and breathtaking sunsets. Here is one of them :) It has already been a couple of years but me and my wife still remember that magical evening. We enjoyed our time on Holbox so much!

In the last round of this challenge, we had 5 participants. After some thorough consideration, I decided to pick these 3 winners:

@stayoutoftherz with this entry from Austria:

BgxWBRxjvNho1d5owNvLc9kLkZETgqoQLu9zcBbNBbDDEp9W4DbuZJuhPcssZTHpTGfP4AEAwdqLdgNvDo9xAX9Zs7nYYHTJxNv4kLhiN6p299f4NTbjm6r829nyzcT4WqZFqWDLiudiEewemPc2uMVSpAtkmy42iWQhkpFR9mSHjkr.jpg

Here is my entry. this is from a walk near my house in Vienna, Austria 3 days ago, this is - believe it or not - part of a water retention basin, to prevent floods in Spring or after heavy rains. This river regulation was carried out app. 120 years ago, and today nobody would assume this is artificial :)

@taqiem95 with this entry from Indonesia:

IMG_20231105_185723.jpg

I often cross this road to get to the mountains, because there is a lot I can see when crossing this route... What I like most is that the road is quite long with views of the mountains towering in front of me. This is one of my favorite tracks. I took this picture on October 31, 2023. Location Aceh, Indonesia.

@godfish with this entry from the Czech Republic:

3W72119s5BjW4PvRk9nXBzqrPWMsMTjNrXDPFFf11pT6nVkEykTyESjUfZE6sn2T9mL9FBAGi9moUPyewquqSXAr5Y3Eu5cmKYrDQfRV7TH6KJLxtUECJi.jpg

Oaks dressed up in autumn colours. The shot comes from Xaverovsky Haj on the eastern edge of Prague, Czech Republic and it was taken earlier today.

Congratulations guys! It was my pleasure to give you 100% upvotes on your entries :)

I am looking forward to what you will come up with in this round.

Have fun and appreciate the beauty of nature!

Hi mate! Nice to see your challenge again. I thought you stopped it as I didn't get any notification from my last entry :)

Hey buddy :) In the last round, I saw your entry and commented on it but then, I was offline for a few days and when I got back to it, it was already too late to upvote it, I´m sorry about that. Shouldn´t happen again though as I´m slowly learning how to navigate through my new IRL chaos. I will stop by your blog with some TipU votes as a compensation ;)

I loved your entry from México, what a beautiful sunset with those birds and the sea 😻
I don't see any problem you post old photos, maybe they're old for you but not for us because we have never seen them hehehe. Who said that photos that hold beautiful memories don't deserve to be published?
😺🤘🏻🤗

Thank you amiga, very kind of you but you know, the main goal of this challenge is to make people go out to nature and appreciate her beauty regularly, at least once every week, and I was always proud and happy to lead by example as I always opened the new round with my own fresh natural picture. So from this perspective, using old photos is not so cool but it is what it is. I wanted to keep this challenge running but I cannot go out myself now so I had to solve it somehow :)

Of course, I know, that's the idea, to go out and look for new photos, but nothing happens if for a few months you post some old photos, I assure you that we will enjoy them just the same 😉, so relax my friend 🧘🏻‍♀️ until the time comes that you can go out to photograph nature again, and now with your mini assistant, the sweet Florecita 🌺☺️🤗

Říkám tomu "Rocky mode on" :D

Aww, thanks for this kind feedback mate, I really missed hosting this challenge so I decided to come up with some updates so that I can keep running it even now when I don´t have time for any outdoorsy fun myself. Awesome, looking forward to checking out your entry! :)

Glad @phortun to see you back in action and here with another spectacular round.
Today I want to make my presence here with a picture taken in the mountain area of Padis, seven days ago.
Padis is located in the Apuseni Mountains in Bihor County, Romania, at an altitude of 1200 meters.
Here in the west of Romania autumn is currently making itself felt, so we decided to visit the mountain area in the neighbouring county in the hope that we would find snow there.
So after a journey of almost 3 hours we arrived in the white paradise in the Padis area.
I hope you will enjoy this image as much as we did when we were there.

What a winter wonderland, wow! Beautiful entry, tank you man! :) It has already snowed here in Prague too lately, a couple of times actually, but the snow always melts away fast. We need to wait for a more stable snow cover :)

Yes and here in the area where I live just today a few snowflakes fell but melted very quickly, the area where I sled was in the mountainous area at an altitude of 1200 meters there the situation is already changing including the temperature which was somewhere at -4 degrees.
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Thanks mate. Now, the snow stays even here in Prague. Been snowing and freezing from yesterday and it should be like this for at least a few more days. But no free time for me to go our for some nice snowy photo shooting of course :(

Know that winter and of course snow lasts for a few months, maybe in the meantime you'll find a way to do something for yourself😉
Once again I am very happy for you, mate😊

Well, it used to be like this when we were kids. Cold winters with a lot of snow, every year. Now with the climate change though, winters here in Central Europe have been significantly warmer and snow increasingly scarce. Maybe this is one of just a few snowy periods of this winter. Will see :)

Reading what you've written, I see myself at the age of 9-10, in a freezing winter with knee-deep snow, barely pulling a sled behind me.
Honestly, it came to me spontaneously.
God what a beautiful time it was unfortunately now everything is in a big change.

Yes, I have the same memories from my childhood my friend. A lot has changed since then indeed and we are not even that old yet, more changes are to come for sure.

Unfortunately, as far as the future is concerned, I am not very optimistic and, at almost 39, I still have many expectations of myself, but I don't know how many of them I will be able to fulfil.

I would like to feature this picture of yours as one of the winners in the new round tomorrow but apparently, the size of the file is too big and I can only see (and download) the upper half of it. Can you please upload it here again but reduce the size a bit? Thanks ;)

Hey there! If it's not a problem, I can upload the picture for him. We are together in Krakow and he can't access his account at the moment.

I'm sorry I couldn't solve this problem myself but luckily my friend missdeli took care of it.

Yeah, no problem :) I guess you don´t use your phone to post or comment on Hive. I do the same. I only read posts on my phone. Anything else, I do it on my laptop ;)

I do exactly the same as you, I read and follow what happens on Hive from my phone but I only log in from my laptop, from there I upload posts and everything.
Moreover I never connect my phone to WiFi networks, here I mean any WiFi network other than the one I have at home, I don't take my laptop with me on holidays, I use it exclusively for what I do in Hive at my home.
I might sound a bit weird, but I have my own fixations.
Now being away and not having access to my laptop I turned to my friend @missdeli to help me so I could reply, if I didn't have her with me I think I would have been embarrassed that I couldn't reply.

Haha no problem my friend, I have very similar habits. Except the one of not connecting phone to wifi. That´s what I do. Everywhere. But I never log in to any Hive apps or front ends from my phone. I only use my phone to read. I do everything else from my laptop, just like you :)

Hey there :))

Hope you are all doing well. I see, autumn has arrived. Finally we also see the colourful foliage but still, there are bushes and plants that are not affected by this change. Just look what we saw the other day. We passed by a shrub with pink flowers. It was Hibiscus, so we remembered the story - how your daughter got her name ;) Here comes my Floral entry with a photo that was taken last Wednesday, 22 of November, in Albir, Spain.

Hi Phortun, I'm sending you a picture of a palm tree taken in the autumn evening light.

The palm on image is Canary Island date palm / Palmera Canaria (Phoenix Canariensis) able to grow up to 40 m.

I like these palm trees, as they are incredibly resilient and adaptable, providing shelter for many birds and insects.

The photo was taken today on 27 November 2023 in Frigiliana, southern Spain.

A shot from my Sunday/Snowday walk in Klánovice Forest. Believe it or not, the forest is still part of Prague. It was (almost) the first snow of this winter. I spent several hours exploring the snowy woods on my way to a great microbrewery in the village of Úvaly and hardly met a soul until I reached the village ;)

Super, to máme už druhý zasněžený soutěžní příspěvek v tomto kole.

Hello @phortun, here is my Entry.

Its a long weekend since it's a holiday on Monday so we decided to have a quick visit to the river in our province. It's been almost 2 years when we last went to this place, because our son is still young during those time. So now he's old enough to appreciate the place , we took him there. It is still as clean and fresh as I remembered years back. I think we will visit this place often from now on, I really missed swimming and playing here, and this time it's better because now we have our son to enjoy the place with.

This place is called nabjeng river, found in Tuba, Benguet, Philippines. Taken on Monday, November 27,2023.

Hello greetings to all, this is the first time I participate in this contest. I send you my photo which I will title as: "Lonely Cloud".
Yesterday afternoon in Barcelona - Venezuela, I went to visit my mom, when I was in the yard, a huge white heron landed on the tree that is in the yard of the neighbor's house, unfortunately I did not have the phone at hand, so I tried to go carefully to look for it and when I went out, the heron was gone. And I realized what was passing through the sky, a solitary cloud, maybe enjoying the scenery or running away from the other two clouds coming behind it, but it looked so pretty there, that I didn't want to miss the moment to photograph it. I hope you like it too.
