Cleaning Tips For The Easily Overwhelmed (Eng/Esp)

Hey friends! So I was helping my neighbor organize again the other day, and her place had gotten a bit chaotic over the holidays, so at one point I was just sweeping through her living room, and she asked what I was working on. I explained that I was looking for the "low hanging fruit," and she didn't know what I meant. It inspired me to write a blog! :)

El otro día estaba ayudando a mi vecina a organizarse nuevamente, y su casa se había vuelto un poco caótica durante las vacaciones, así que en un momento estaba barriendo su sala de estar y ella me preguntó en qué estaba trabajando. Le expliqué que estaba buscando "la fruta madura" y ella no sabía a qué me refería. ¡Me inspiró a escribir un blog! :)

Sometimes, when a mess is too big, we become overwhelmed with it and don't know where to start. Especially for those of us who are 🌶neurospicy🌶, we'll look at a chaotic space and our brains will just short circuit. That executive dysfunction that people talk about, that's what this is. You can't focus on just one part of it and begin, you see the whole mess as one unconquerable mountain. So, the "low hanging fruit" approach is my way of overcoming this issue.
A veces, cuando un desastre es demasiado grande, nos abruma y no sabemos por dónde empezar. Especialmente para aquellos de nosotros que somos 🌶neurospicy🌶 (como se dice 'neurospicy' en Español, jajaja), veremos un espacio caótico y nuestros cerebros simplemente sufrirán un cortocircuito. Esa disfunción ejecutiva de la que habla la gente, eso es lo que es. No puedes concentrarte en solo una parte y comenzar, ves todo el desastre como una montaña invencible. Por lo tanto, el enfoque de "fruta madura" es mi manera de superar este problema.

The "low hanging fruit" means you look for the biggest, easiest, fastest thing to tackle first, that will make the largest impact on the feel of the mess in the quickest amount of work. Here's what I mean: imagine that it's after the holidays, and you have a living room that looks like a tornado has run through it. You have:
La "fruta madura" significa que primero busca lo más grande, más fácil y más rápido de abordar, que tendrá el mayor impacto en la sensación de desorden en la menor cantidad de trabajo. Esto es lo que quiero decir: imagina que es después de las vacaciones y tienes una sala de estar que parece como si la hubiera atravesado un tornado. Tienes:
-A big pile of boxes, packaging, and wrapping paper -Dirty dishes scattered around on all the tables and chairs -A floor with muddy shoe prints by the door, cat litter near the box, food crumbs, and dust -A big pile of mail and other papers you haven't gotten to because you were so busy over the holidays.
-Una gran pila de cajas, embalajes y papel de regalo -Platos sucios esparcidos por todas las mesas y sillas. -Un piso con huellas de zapatos embarrados junto a la puerta, arena para gatos cerca de la caja, migas de comida y polvo -Una gran pila de correo y otros documentos que no has podido leer porque estuviste muy ocupado durante las vacaciones. ¿Qué abordas primero?
What do you tackle first?

My suggestion is, you go for the pile of boxes and wrapping paper first. It's quick and easy to flatten boxes and take them to the recycling (or compost, or fire pit, whatever the setup is in your area), and put the wrapping and tissue paper that can't be recycled in the trash. Those things are *large* and will have the biggest visual impact when you pick them up, and it's fast!
Mi sugerencia es que primero busques la pila de cajas y papel de regalo. Es rápido y fácil aplanar cajas y llevarlas al centro de reciclaje (o abono, o fogón, cualquiera que sea la configuración en su área) y tirar el papel de regalo y el papel de seda que no se pueden reciclar a la basura. Esas cosas son *grandes* y tendrán el mayor impacto visual cuando las recojas, ¡y es rápido!

Then the next easiest, most effective task is to pick up those dirty dishes and move them to the kitchen. Even if you don't wash them now, just putting them in the sink or on the counter to be ready for washing will get them out of the way and tidy up the space you are trying to clean. Then if you still have time/energy to clean, the next task I would prioritize is to sweep and mop the floor. The floor is so big, cleaning it will improve the feel of the place a lot.

The last thing I would prioritize is that mail pile. Going through papers, filing, and shredding is slow, and the space it takes up is relatively small. You can have a stack of papers on a table and it isn't overly distracting unless it's so big it's falling over.
Lo último que daría prioridad es esa pila de correo. Revisar papeles, archivarlos y destruirlos es lento y el espacio que ocupa es relativamente pequeño. Puedes tener una pila de papeles sobre una mesa y no distraerá demasiado a menos que sea tan grande que se caiga.

Tackling cleaning chores in this way is helpful not only if you have limited time or energy, but also if you're the type that becomes overwhelmed quickly. Going for the low hanging fruit helps you stay motivated because you see progress faster.
Abordar las tareas de limpieza de esta manera es útil no solo si tienes tiempo o energía limitados, sino también si eres del tipo que se abruma rápidamente. Ir por lo más fácil te ayuda a mantenerte motivado porque ves el progreso más rápido.

I love the ripe fruit thing, haha, an excellent way to organize yourself without a doubt in the face of such work and clutter.
When I see things like that I do a quick scan and choose sectors.
If I'm in the bedroom first a nightstand, then the dresser and everything that doesn't go in those places I put it on the bed, so I go with each thing and finally take out everything I throw on the bed. That would be ripe fruit or half ripe? haha.
Amiga I loved all those tips. No doubt they are great.

Maravillosos consejos, amiga, analizar todo de esta forma resulta muy útil, pues resulta que la limpieza puede resultar abrumadora, sobre todo, cuando tienes mucho tiempo sin organizar los espacios y allí ocurre un colapso que te hace sentir que perdiste la batalla antes de inicial. Gracias por traer tus conocimientos y experiencia a la comunidad.

Thats so helpful, I think I am neurospicy and get overwhelmed very quickly. I try to adopt a similar strategy to at least do 1 or 2 things and hope over time I can tackle more without that overwhelmed feeling dominating me.
