The Science of Procrastination

I am going to be talk about procrastination. First of all what is procrastination, Procrastination can simply be defined as The act of postponing, delaying or putting off, especially habitually or intentionally. You want to do an assignment, project or even something as simple as washing the dishes or laundry, but because you think you have a lot of time on your hands, you keep delaying and putting it off until maybe finally you don't eventually do anything at all.

How does procrastination happen. For me, I think the first step that leads towards procrastination is actually thinking about it. For example let's say you are giving a chore to do by your mother and she goes out, Instead of you to just do that chore and be done with it, you are thinking that since Mother is going to take a while to come back let me just hold on for a while, then who knows you step out to play and come back meeting your mother doing that same chore she assigned you to do, at that point just start editing your obituary 😅.

The act of Procrastination is very common in students. You are giving some period of time to do a project or an assignment but some decides to hold on till a day to submission or even the day of the submission, maybe they like experiencing that adrenaline rush of nearly being caught. They also procrastinate when preparing for exams ( I am guilty of this ask @glorydee), they wait to probably some few hours before the exam and start a rushed preparation, It works in their favor sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.

One way of beating procrastination which I do is by delegating a specific time for the proposed action. For example I want to study so I set an alarm by 11 a.m to remind me to study.

Another way is to just do the proposed action immediately it comes to mind.

And that's all from me, I hope you had a wonderful read, thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.
