The Right Mentality and Its Effects
What is a Mentality? A mentality is a mindset, way of thinking or set of beliefs. So simply put, a right mentality is a right mindset, right way of thinking or right set of beliefs.
The mentality in which we approach a problem or difficulty is a major determinant in whether we get the right solution or not. Let me give an example, "this course is hard, there is no point in reading since I will not pass anyway". As you can see with this mentality, there is little to no hope of passing that course. Let us take a look at the same but with a right mentality "this course, but if I should study hard and prepare well enough, I can ace it". We can see the differences between two examples and without deep thinking, we can probably guess the outcome which is
- Example A in all likelihood fails the test because he was not well prepared
- Example B in all likelihood passes the test because he was well prepared
So, as we can see from the examples listed above, your mentality is a very major factor in how you approach an issue, difficulty or even a person. Your mentality is very key in the sense that it directs your subconsciousness on how to approach an issue or difficulty. If you approach a supposed difficult situation with the wrong mentality, you will be subconsciously creating excuses on why that situation is impossible and cannot be solved but if you approach that situation with the right mentality, you will subconsciously be creating plans and solutions to remedy the situation. A difficulty is never meant to be easy in the first place but even though it is hard, it is never impossible, even though you might not get the desired outcome, it is better to try and fail than not try at all.
A wrong mentality only creates excuses while a right mentality creates plans. Let us re-examine the previously mentioned examples.
Wrong Mentality
What is the point of me reading when I will not pass anyway because this course is very hard (excuse)
He/She proceeds not to study and make little or even no preparations whatsoever.
He/She goes into the exam hall and writes the little he knows
When he/she sees the result and it comes out a failure, he/she is probably going to say something like "I already knew I could not pass this course because it is very hard"
Right Mentality
This course is very hard but if I can study seriously and make preparations, I am sure I can come out with a good result (plan)
He/She goes on to make a well planned out studying routine plus other preparations needed for a good result.
He/She goes into the exam hall fairly confident as a result of sufficient preparations
He/She passes the course even though on the onset it was a very hard course.
A right mentality is very necessary for obtaining a good result

NB: Facing an issue or difficulty, you can start with a right mentality but later on switch to a wrong mentality and also still start on a wrong mentality but later on switch to a right mentality. Starting with a right mentality is good, but maintaining it till the end is the best.
