Selling a Defect (Car Salesman Tricks) .:. WorkerBee PH-Pool Week 237
After a hot week with over 40 Degrees Celsius, we got a bit of relief as we went under that number... Not too much, but there is a difference... Another week, another topic, and another life/business lessons learned... and be advised... learned from the best! There is no better salesman than car dealers... 😂 Or maybe there is?

Created on Canva.com, using my photo as a background
Last week's main occupation was searching for a car for my son! He got his driver's license 2 months ago, and the last 60 days, he was on top of my and my wife's heads to buy a car! He got his savings and, of course, we helped him out to find a decent car on the market... As that "savings" isn't enough for a new car, our search was among cars around 20 years old, and believe me, there is a lot of junk! It was a quest, similar to finding a needle in a haystack!

Generally, I like cars (new and old), and I like to visit Car shows, checking on them, maybe test drive too... But, I dislike typical car salesmen, as in 99% they are almost all the same, with the same mission... To sell you the car, they have the biggest benefit, and not the car that you really need! On the other side, you can always learn some new tricks from those 1% that is more creative and innovative... 😃
For example, we had a guy who was selling "his" (actually, it was "his wife's"... or actually, who knows who was the owner... lol) Seat Ibiza that was 22 years old, but continuously repeating how the car is "new"... 😂 The engine had over 200.000km and the chassis had stickerbumps over places where the corrosion was eating the car and where it was hit... and there was a lot of stickerbumps... 🤣
We checked 4-5 more cars, but we had one obvious winner in the category "WTF man!?" 😂 I think it was a Citroen C4 that we visited... The first look at the car was enough to realize that there are so many flashing red lights that you can't see the car in it... 😀 For example, it had more wrinkles than a 100-year-old man, and you couldn't even spot the "original line"... (that's why I said think it was a Citroen 😂)... Also, the rubber band that goes under the side window looked like it was eaten by rats... 🤣
Anyway, to not be a complete asshole and party breaker, I continued observing the car, asking the owner to start the car... Well, to my surprise (not), the car couldn't start at all! 🤦♂ The brother of the salesman was coming with the cables, the 80-year-old grandma was yelling from the front door What's the problem?, and it was time for my son and me to go home... 😃
The same day, late in the evening, we met a neighbor who was a car dealer too! He had a couple of cars, with some obvious defects... As he realized that we are close neighbors, it was obvious that he didn't want to sell any of the future, possibly every day, uncomfortable encounters on the street... It was time to change the strategy...

No more car salesman... The new goal is to find the "end user" and buy it directly from the owner! And we did find one... Which we bought in the end... Yes, the price was a bit over the budget, but the difference between those cars that we checked the day before and this one was like comparing STEEM to HIVE... 😂 But, how did he "get us" to buy it? What was the main selling point?
Firstly, honesty... I mean, all car salesmen will tell you they are honest, but you can "read" them, and in the end, that's their job, and you can't blame them if they slip a lie or two...
The second thing (which is the title of the post) was telling MORE about the car, selling a defect which isn't even visible on the car! In our example, it was telling that the car's shock absorbers in front have to be changed... The car had some smaller scratches on the chassis, but after saying that ONE thing, we didn't think about additional possible issues with the car... I don't know if that was the plan of the guy who was selling the car, but it worked perfectly for him, as we bought it!

What did I learn from this "lesson"? I remember when I was selling my old cars/computers in the past, there were people who would "find" something wrong with it and stick to that one thing... Using it to bargain, to get a better price... It was ridiculous as I was selling the OLD THING, it's normal that something is wrong, outdated, or just worn out... In the end, it wouldn't be on sale if it's new, working great, and fulfilling the expectations of the owner!
We could implement the same logic in HIVE! We are an old blockchain that has its purpose, use case, its good sides, a lot of pros... But, it's not perfect, it also has its flaws and weak points... It's not the point to "hide the flaws" and to brag about great things only, or to try to be the Jack of all trades... We should focus on things that work the best for us, and for the rest, we can collaborate with other chains to use them to "cover our flaws"... In the same way, we would make new connections, growing the community, and growing stronger together... It's always easier to grow when you have more decentralized teams, focused on things that they are doing the best!
Oh... I owe you an answer to the question from the beginning of the post...
There is no better salesman than car dealers... 😂 Or maybe there is?
The next step is to find a good insurance company that will not rip off the newly created car driver... More about that in the next post(s)! Maybe an insurance salesman can beat the car salesman? 😃

Let's see the WorkerBee Pool numbers for this week... The WORKERBEE token price continued the drop, which means a good APR for those who decide to stake them!
This week, we have mined 98 BEE tokens in total, 14 more than the week before! That's awesome!
This week, we didn't get new delegators! But we got new delegations from old members, as usual! Thanks, guys! Appreciate your support!
This POOL doesn't have fees, and you get up to 20% MORE by delegating to it!

What about the bonus tokens?
This week, it's time to distribute the other token from the @liotes family, the CTPSB token! It is a token that was acquired from another project, and it is now managed by the @liotes team! A few tweaks have been implemented, so there are no worries for the token owners about the future... The APR for HODLers is still better than many others out there, and there is enough liquidity to go in and out of it...
There will be distributed 2.5 CTPSB tokens to the delegators of the pool as a bonus reward today!

2.5 CTPSB tokens will be distributed as a bonus... The APR (without the bonus) was 11.704%, and when we added the bonus, it went up to 14.20%!
I have calculated the ROI approximately with medium prices for all tokens when creating this post... So, those numbers are valid if you bought WB and sold BEE tokens at the middle HiveEngine price...
Do you want to sponsor the PH-Pool with your tokens, receive a short SPONSORED segment in this post, and raise awareness about your front-end or dApp? Please let me know in the comment section, or contact me through Discord or Twitter, and we will find the best solution for both parties...

If you want to join the WorkerBee PH-Pool, the only thing that you have to do is to STAKE tokens to YOUR account and DELEGATE your staked WORKERBEE tokens to THIS account (@ph1102)! Every week, you will get your portion of mined BEE tokens and BONUS rewards!
.:. DO NOT STAKE TOKENS TO MY ACCOUNT!!! Just DELEGATE! .:.

All payments will be made after publishing this post...
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section!

The car-selling game is truly packed with interesting characters 😂 Your story really shows why it is important to see past the sales pitch and seek out someone who truly cares about their vehicle.
Speaking of "who cares", the car salesman definitely doesn't care about the cars at all! On the other side, the person from whom we bought the car took care of it, as the interior looks really good... despite the car being almost 20 years old!
Buying a used car is always an adventure... I've had good and bad experiences.
Recently I sold an old car (corolla 2003) I had to my son's best friend. I knew the car had minor problems, but overall it was a very good car (otherwise I wouldn't sell it to a friend). My price was at the bottom of market prices. He still took the car to a mechanic to check it out, and was happy with it. He tried to bargain a bit as I told him the breaks and front shocks had to be replaced, but my price was under anything else he could get and he could use the difference to fix it. In the end my main sale pitch was that I would buy it back if he didn't want it anymore, as I do like the car, just sold it because it was sitting without any use.
I would say that your friend got a very good deal, almost without any risks! That's something that we also searched for, but it was impossible to do it, especially as we have been living at this place for less than a year, and we don't know too many people...
On the other side, I didn't want to sell my old cars to friends as they had major issues, which I took care of before selling... But still, I didn't trust the car anymore and I didn't want to let down my friends...
Despite all that, my friend insisted on buying it after all the bad experiences that I had with the car, and he knew about them too! In the end, he drove that car for almost 10 years without any issues! 😃
Thanks for your curation!! 🙏
Car salesman 🤮 You have to go in what your looking for or they well sell you that lemon that will give them a bang for thier buck. I always try to see if I can take the car for a day or two. If you ask on a Friday or Saturday the often tell you to bring back Monday. Most places here do that. I than would bring it to a place that does a full free vehicle inspection and not of course tell them its not my car. Oh mechanics another story 😆
Thats hillourious after they talked and praised the ride. I also found it funny you compared its condition to an old wrinkly person 😆
Hey going on vacation (starting tomorrow) I may find some time to be a lot more active here. I miss it just been busy with life and the summer vibes!

Wow! Nobody does that here! It's much easier to "test" the car when you have a day or two to try it... ;) Here, most of the time, they do allow you to take the car to (your) mechanic, but that's also usually with them going with you...
Nice to see you back! I hope you are doing well! 🍻
you havent tell us the most important part, which car you bought for him then??
insurance for new drivers it's hella expensive for like 5 years
He bought a Mercedes-Benz A150, from 2004, I think... Not this one from the gif, but similar... :)
Yeah... we just came back home from searching insurance options... The prices are crazyyyyy!!!! Over 1K EUR for new drivers!
How's it going in Italy? More than that?
Oh yea not too big, that's a good choice
Here back in the days when it was for me I paid 1200€ the first year, then always around 1000-800€ until I made 5 years of insurance, after a cut to 500€
We got a similar answer here... Translated to English, all drivers younger than 25-26 years (in some cases even to 31 yo!!!) are discriminated!
We all thing abroad is different but the world is all the same lol
Woohoo thank you for the CTPSB!
You are welcome! Thanks for being part of the pool! 🙏
I find that really funny for a car adventure. 😂
Sometimes it's unbelievable what some people do to see the car!
Exactly, I also keep roaming around the market in the same way and all these people try to do is to sell our car at a higher profit, so we have to be sensible by going here and buying the car after looking at every single thing so that we don't have any problems after some time.
Yeah, you need to check out so many things before purchasing the car... Research the market first, and then the mechanical parts of the car, etc.
Typical car salesmen is pretty sleazy but that's what they're paid to do. However, once in a while you meet a salesmen that does their job really well and highlight the pros and cons. I think a good seller is those who can personalize the needs of their customer.
I got caught up to the black and white hive has to offer sometimes but there are moments when I know that it's best to show the best and the worst part of hive. Afterall, when we learn from other apps out there, there are cons but its builders doesn't just focus on negativity. It attempts to improve it. I mean, think like facebook, it's problematic on its own but some percentage of people find that helpful.
I miss that... Somehow, I can rarely find that kind of salesperson, but maybe that's just because of my experiences from the past... lol... I'm more grumpy than I was when I was young and naive, maybe... 😂
What I find interesting (and problematic sometimes) is that developers almost always ask for feedback, which is great, but... After getting some criticism, not many are open to accepting them and work on their product to suit more to the end customer... Those who DO ACCEPT usually are those who succeed...
You can't expect to create a "killer product" on the first tryout! 😃
When buying and selling cars, we have so many anecdotes, for a whole book 🙂
How many times as a customer have I heard the comment: "Grandma drove it to the market, it's like new", and the mileage is over 150,000 km 😅
As a seller, I have always been honest and almost always sold the car at the lower market price, because imagine, my cars are not like new, they have scratches, they need to be serviced, and the 100,000 km that I have done, have been driven in the city, highways, forest and country roads...
That's how I sold my Opel Astra.
I gave a low price on the ad and further lowered the price to one buyer who expressed interest. The price I told him could not be even 1€ lower.
He drove up to me, looked at the car, confirmed everything I told him and asked: "Can the price be 50€ lower?". I turned and headed home, locking the car, when he apologized and said, "I had to try. You know I'm a reseller."
Two weeks after the purchase, I saw that car on the market, it would really look like new, painted, washed, but for a much higher price.
And the last sale of my Suzuki SX4, the buyer, it turned out to be my former colleague, drove the car to his mechanic who said that the discs on the wheels needed to be replaced and that the price for that replacement was €1000 and that he would reduce the already low price by that much.
I asked the customer if he would accept to pay the price I was asking if I replaced the discs.
He agreed, and the replacement cost me €300, at my master's...
There is everything... And what I have only seen myself as a customer... Real torture. In the end, I have never bought a car from a dealer, always from individuals.
And you didn't say which car you bought. Isn't it a Mercedes A-class?
Hehehehe... The mileage can be fixed always... lol... but granma is always there... 😂
Most of the cars did the same... The only difference is that the car salesman doesn't know that, or it doesn't want to know, or it doesn't say it... lol...
Oh, boy... Mechanics is a completely different (and painful) story... 😂
Yes, it is... 20 years old, but it looks great... It was driven by a woman (not grandma 😂) the last 6-7 years, and the interior looks like "apoteka" 🤣 (no joking)
I saw it in the picture 😉
It's hard to trust car salesman, but I think its fine when its a trustworthy relative. It worked out well for my relatives who bought from my uncle, and I think it just depends on who. Then again, while he does sell some cars, his main job was more of a car repairsman so he made sure to fix any obvious issues before selling.
Thanks for running the pool and for the BEE/CTPSB tokens.
The best way is probably to buy from someone that you know, or, like in your case, from a relative, family member, or neighbor...
Selling the bad first before talking about the good is a nice psychological trick lol. I think if it's allowed, taking the car for a test drive gives a better scope of knowing what the problems are as opposed to hearing it from the salesman.
So funny on the episode of the old woman asking what's wrong when the car couldn't be turned on :D
Hahahaha... It was literally like someone was recording a comedy movie... 😂
Hehe interesting sharing! Thanks for the update and tokens too!
!LUV
Glad to hear that you liked it!
You are welcome!
yeah, my ex and his family ran a very successful car repair shop that specialized in classic and limited edition cars. Everything from old split window Volkswagens vans to Ferraris. When it came to buying and selling though, I can tell you most of the ricks of the trade. At least I walked away with that incredibly useful knowledge. Most salesmen underestimate me because I am a woman, but I set them straight real fast as I point out flaws in potential vehicles that wouldn't be visible to the untrained eye, but would cause massive problems in the future. Always check door linings and the floor (remove carpet where you can, to check for any signs of corrosion. Rust is like Cancer! Don't ever buy anything that even has the slightest bit. It's not worth it.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's great to be an "insider" and to know where to look... I did something similar in my profession, without revealing my knowledge, leaving them to get into their own spider web... 😂
Funny that you mentioned that, as one of the examples that I shared (stickerbumps) was doing exactly that.. trying to hide signs of corrosion...
And the other one that we checked had door linings a bit distorted, which usually means that the car had an accident and was repaired...
Right? It's quite something seeing it from both sides! Buying and selling cars aint for sissies though. I remember driving like 10 km for a car that's drivers seat wasn't even attached to the floor anymore! I've always been insistent on saving the money by buying and selling without trading in or using a third party, but jeesh its wild out there. Feels like you need a hepatitis shot after going onto gumtree nowadays!
