(Im)Balance Between Crypto and Fiat .:. Recap of Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.35 + HHHLive Show Recording

avatar

Hey, guys... Did you miss the last #HHHLive show on Wednesday, December 11th? No worries, I have finally found some free time to write the recap post about it and to prepare the recordings that I hope will finish on 3Speak!!! (Don't forget to scroll down to watch it! We had a great discussion!)

Recap of HiveHumpdayHangout 35.jpg
Created in Canva.com

For this show, we didn't start slow... At 5 PM UTC, everyone was ready and waiting for the show to start on the Ecency Discord server! Maybe that was because we didn't have a show the previous week, I don't know, but it was nice to see all of you guys! The topic was interesting, but we didn't have a lot of controversy or opposing opinions. I was expecting more of that, but it looks like most of the participants are "hardcore crypto peeps!" 😃

As usual, I have opened the dialogue by sharing my crypto story, trying to explain to others (and to myself too), how I did stuck with crypto! 😃 I bought my first BTC in 2013, and sold it after only a couple of months, with a loss... Left crypto with words "never again!"... Came back in early 2017, mining ETH with GPU mining rigs... In those times, I was more investing in hardware and mining, than investing directly in crypto... What came after, marked my journey...

In my first cycle, I did many things wrong, and probably the worst mistake was that I didn't take profits... As I didn't want to sell with a loss (again!), I got stuck with crypto but learned the lesson... The next cycle was better, as I had experience, and I had a plan... As my "investment portfolio" is still imbalanced, my plan is to try to move toward certain ratios between fiat and crypto... The idea is to try to be 20-25% in fiat on top of the bull, and as we go deeper into the bear, I want to get back into crypto until I get to 5-10% in fiat. Will I stick to that? Time will tell... Ask me how it played out in 2-3 years. 😃

Liotes Divider Blue.png

It was time to share the microphone with other participants... @buttcoins was the first to share his crypto story and his steps toward the present... He was mostly in the real estate market, but when crypto came, he embraced it with both hands! Similar to myself (and probably many of you), he didn't like banks, so the idea of crypto was very appealing... Currently, he is only in real estate and crypto, which means 99% crypto... 🙂

In the meantime, @duskobgd was asking some cool questions in the chat, that weren't addressed to one of us, but more for everyone who is "all in crypto"... The question was, how to sleep with 99% in crypto? As @buttcoins shared, it is painful at the beginning... No sleep, watching charts day and night, stressing, a lot of anxiety, etc. But with time, it gets better... Especially when you reach the level of "conviction" when you feel that your "money" is safer in crypto, than in banks, for example!

Liotes Divider Blue.png

@jza was the next participant who shared his crypto story... It dates to 2011 when he found Bitcoin when he was in search of good P2P options to send money... Paypal was closing accounts in different countries, and it was a good "wake-up call" to find a solution for sending money! In those days, he was hiring people over the Internet and paying them with BTC!!! How cool was it to do that so early!! He is also one of those who are 99% in crypto... It looks like we all have a 99:1 ratio between crypto and fiat... 😃

@achim03 joined the show close to the end, but there was still time to hear his story... Finally, we heard someone who isn't just in crypto, but much better diversified in other assets too! While we had an open discussion, of course, we had to talk about HIVE too... The point was to show that crypto isn't just Bitcoin, but also many other cryptocurrencies, with different use cases... We can't predict what will happen in the future, but even BTC is replaceable, and maybe we will use some other token as a store of value...

As the final closing of the show, we got to the conclusion that we shouldn't view other cryptos and blockchains as competitors, or enemies, but rather as an opportunity to collaborate... To find the best of everyone and embrace the differences... To create a synergy between the chains, and to not be "maxis" or grow tribal mentality...

When you check the recording you will notice that we maybe went offtopic a few times, but it's always nice to find the "meeting point" at the end...

Don't forget to check out the show recording below!

We had 12 participants (including myself) in the show this week!!! Thanks for participating, @achim03, @bulkathos, @buttcoins, @duskobgd, @foxkoit, @jza, @melinda010100, @palomap3, @pravesh0, @sacra97, and @travoved! Thank you guys and girls for joining, sharing your views, opinions, and experience, and having fun!

As usual, we had an after-show this time too! We were talking about Lago Bitcoin in Guatemala, El Salvador's Bitcoin Beach, paying part of the salary in crypto, and some other topics... That part isn't recorded, so if you would like to participate in the after-shows, you will have to come in live!!

Liotes Divider Blue.png

Thank you, guys and girls, once again! As a sign of appreciation, I will send some LEN tokens to all participants of the live show! You can pair them with LENM tokens, add liquidity to the diesel pool, and earn rewards! If you want to learn more about the project behind it, check out the @liotes account or visit the Liotes website... Of course, if you are not interested in it, you can sell tokens on the Hive-Engine market...

To encourage more people to come on the mic, I have sent an additional 100 Ecency POINTS to people who shared their thoughts in voice with us! This time, we had 3 participants on the mic, @buttcoins, @jza, and @achim03! Thanks for sharing the stage with me! So, this week, Ecency POINTS are going to them!

Special thanks goes to @melinda010100 and @good-karma for providing the space for the event!

Thank you for your time,
--ph--

PS. If you have special ideas for the TOPIC (or guest) in future shows, don't hesitate to suggest them in the comment section!!! Thanks!

I mined btc back in 2016 did it for a year. I'm still using my 1080gpu today. I wonder how the 40 series feels like.

Nice! So, you are filthy rich if you were mining that early? 😜
Most of my GPUs were AMD series, and just a couple of them were nVidia... It was a huge scarcity of GPUs, so I had to work with what I had on the market... 😄

No remember when the price goes up in 2017? I sold mine and bought a line and a trike. But it's the start of my passive income 😉

I see it was a great program and with varied opinions, I think it is a good time to hear a bit of everyone's stories and learn from them. You are already a pro, at least that's how I see you... Money is safer in crypto than in banks, yes sir, just this week we were talking about that at home 😵‍💫

If I were a pro, I would probably be somewhere in the Bahamas... 😂, I did learn a couple of things during these years, but most of them are basic stuff... like patience, consistency, or sticking to the plan... 🙂

It's not different than any "other life"... If you enjoy it, it's easy... 😃
Thanks for participating! It's always great to have you around!

Hi ph!!! Hope so you are fine 😊
I'm bit late in joining the crypt as I first join it in 2022 and I staked BCH, still I'm in this cycle but many times I also took a pause from it especially when several times I lost in bear market

Hey, les90! Nice to see you back!

Breaks don't count as being in crypto... 😜 Just kidding... You are not late as there are still millions of people ignoring crypto... :)
Don't "lose" in a bear market... Don't sell your skin cheap!

Yes you're right, many people still don't get involved in cryptocurrency and many aren't aware about it

The problem with crypto, is that it depends on which country you live in, here it's really hard to being them to real world, if money pop up in you bank account state will come ask explanations and monet as taxes, you need to declare yearly all your crypto and pay tax on it, if you want to stay anonymous basically no one accepts crypto payments... I tried bitrefill to buy coupons and that works, but you can't live just with coupons

Hmmm.. Didn't you say that you are from Italy? Compared to other countries around the world, we in the EU are lucky to have multiple options to work with crypto... I prefer pre-paid crypto (debit) cards, like Crypto.com, or Revolut... There are also BTC ATMs in different cities around Europe, too...
It's not that complicated... ;)

yep italy...with debit cards who automatically convert crypto in euros to pay like in the market it would be good to go, like binance card...

But i informed myself about binance card, they want you to KYC...revolut too...and that's the problem that screws you, because then the state gets the information you hold crypto and pay with it and you will receive a letter at home like 'hey where did that money came from? you didn't declare it in the yearly tax report' so you get called by a judge and need to pay (crypto are 26% taxed and you need to declare every single penny you hold), go to a court and so on...i am technically illegal here with hive lol because i never declared anything to the state, but it's not kyc so state can't know and bitrefill saves the day

Well, it depends on how much money you want to move around... those debit cards have their limits, and your country has them too... But, you have to inform yourself before doing it... If you have a lot, it's not the end of the world to declare some taxes, or open a company offshore... 😂

Maybe the BTC ATM isn't a bad solution?

It's an interesting show. Everyone had different views and everyone had different stories. I like the idea of using BTC as an alternative to Paypal.

Paypal sucks... lol... I used it only because there were no alternatives in the past, but today, I try to avoid it as much as possible... Those fees that sometimes go up to 5% are ridiculously high!

You could have been a millionaire in dollars if you were very much still in BTC by now. However, no one in 2013 knew the destination of BTC since it was pretty much the only crypto we had in 2013. However, it's all not all gloom but lessons. If crypto was easy everyone would and could've been rich. However, I know you're still waiting to hit it. I think you have some opportunities to do so, to some extent this cycle.

It seemed like a great show with some good discussions

You could have been a millionaire in dollars if you were very much still in BTC by now.

It was all about who you have around you... Unfortunately, except for 1 friend who was mostly speculating with the price, I didn't have anyone to "show me the way"... I know a few stories where people stick together, researching, and helping each other in bad and good... It helped them to HODL and to be in a good position today...

But, I don't complain... I'm happy with my crypto journey, and it's not over yet... :)

We have our stories and "not having enough knowledge" is one of the Achilles heel of almost everyone that interacted with crypto very early. If it was easy, then everyone would be in it. I think I'm glad for your journey so far too..

Judging by my question, it's clear that I do, as well as Paloma.
I'm not 99% in the crypt.
I put in that bit of fiat money, which I wouldn't mind losing if BTC crashed today.
Although judging by the new ATH an hour ago, I don't know what to say 🙂

Don't hurry and do things at your own pace... When you are comfortable making more steps, you do them... ;)
BTC may have today its ATH, but who knows, maybe in a week it will go back under 70-80K... To zero, I'm not sure... 😃 But, anything is possible...

I am sorry for missing it; I had trouble checking due to internet and power issues. Sometimes the connection is good, but other times we experience delays when trying to download or upload pages. The time difference also makes it more complicated for me to join in. I will review the links and see how it will work out.

No worries... I do understand issues that can occur, and the time difference is another big obstacle for people on the other side of the world... ;)

THanks for your comment!

I will join it after I come back to Norway. It is easier there than here. It would be nice to know and learn something from Pro. Hiveans. :)
