Hive Tips For Newbies! .:. Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.11 (Wednesday, January 10, 5 PM UTC)
Holidays are over, it's time to go back to work... And if you don't have a "work", well go back to HIVE and crypto... π Sorry for skipping last week's show, but I was on vacation with my family and didn't have quality Internet for doing a live stream... So, this one is our first (of many) show in 2024 and I will dedicate the topic to newbies on HIVE... They need the most support as building an account on HIVE is a learning curve and it is much easier to do with the help of more experienced users! That's where you come into the picture! π
Created in Canva.com
I have already done one show where we were talking about first steps on Hive... In that one, we were focused on the very first steps like creating an introduction post, the importance of joining some communities, the power of engagement, etc. I was thinking of creating a similar show again, but with a focus on particular steps AFTER your first steps... So, maybe we could explain the topic as the SECOND step on HIVE, or even better, understand how HIVE works to be able to WALK!
As we all know HIVE doesn't have "specific" RULES, so we can't teach others them, but we can certainly show some guidelines and practices that are welcomed on the platform... Sometimes it's not just about presenting a piece of information, but also about HOW you present it! For example, what should a post look like, what are many curators looking for when they search for good posts, etc?
As I know that many newbies don't know what they can earn by supporting others, it is important to show them how to follow their upvote value and voting power, and how to do curation most effectively... In a few months, I will celebrate my 5th anniversary here on HIVE and I have to admit that I forgot about many struggles that I had as a newbie... Because of that, I will need your help in running the show! If you have some important tips for newbies or struggles that you have, please let me know in the comment section and I will take a note to mention it in the show...
If you plan to attend the show, you are more than welcome to share your tips in live, or ask questions! That's why this show was created in the first place, to help others to grow! Also, if you have onboarded people to HIVE and would like to help them with integration, call them to join the show and encourage them to ask questions...
Of course, as every time, you can expect a great after-show when we can discuss whatever you have in mind... π We had some great discussions in the past and I suppose we will have them again! This part will be exclusive for people who are attending live!
How was it the last show? Check it out yourself the Recap of HHHLive post... For all the participants, there are some LEN tokens for participating in the show, and some special rewards (in Ecency POINTS) for those who were the bravest and came on the voice during the show!!! Seems like the right topic for us newbies.
I will follow carefully in the lecture tomorrow π
Hehehehe... I wouldn't call it a lecture as most people hate them... π It would be more of a talk about Hive and how to add the most value and get some benefits for doing that!
I hope that we will have more experienced users in the show to share their views and tips, too!
See you tomorrow!
Welcome Back! That sounds like a fun topic and I am certainly interested to hear the different opinions!
Thanks! I hope it will be fun and educational at the same time! That's the best way to learn... π
I have to confess that I didn't miss you last week. π€£π€£ I did have a live show. π
If nothing prevents it, I'll be there. π€

Been off two days in row due to inclement & forecasted snow storms here. If it is three days in a row count me in. If not I'll make it one of these days. So let it keep snowing π
Most likely that won't happen so I'll drop a little bit here. Very interesting topic and like you said above there aren't rules but there are many things to consider. Being one month shy of a year here I would love to hear what everyone has to say. I'll be listening when you post the show in a day or two!
Maybe π€ I'm doing somethings right while maybe I'm off track on others. To the most part I just write, engage, and keep growing. Have to write thinking positively and of course trying to keep it fun. Often one bad upvoted article means a good one is right around the corner. This is my thought process to not get discouraged. Also I think one has to challenge themself by going out of their comfort zone sometimes. I think this can help getting your face out there. Also important to follow and engage with things or a writing style that interests you. A few thoughts from me I got more but if I go on I'm writing an article, haha
Take care and I look forward to listening to it soon π
Thank you very much for this great comment! You shared some nice tips about content creation and engagement on HIVE!
I can recognize myself in that sentence... While I know that certain type of content is "more valued" by curators, that doesn't mean that it is more valuable to my readers... Most of my posts where I share photos and stories from my travels are well-upvoted, and on the other side, the posts where I share tips for growing on HIVE aren't upvoted well...
"Unfortunately", I like to share the second type of content that isn't appreciated by curators, but on the other side, I know that many do appreciate them which is fulfilling in a completely different way... Sometimes it's not all about the money... :)
Right on we should write for ourselves but also to our audience and it shouldn't be about chasing the money. For instance, I write about my son's acculades in basketball because I'm treating it as a journal, they don't usually do well but I'm still ok with it. Also I have done promise articles, they don't all do that well but I like to give/show them appreciation. I feel like that's an awesome welcomed gift.
If I didn't have a work, I would spend most of my time on HIVE :)
Hehehe... That's why I said that... π
Great show topic! I'm loving watching many new people make friends and get to know each other by using Waves!
Hive is such a great place for meeting people... After having many IRL meetups, I have never met a person who was different IRL than on HIVE, and I didn't have a "negative" experience yet!!!
Thanks for the reminder about Waves! As I'm not into short-form content, I keep forgetting it, but I know many people like it a lot!
WAVES is a great place to share what's happening in the moment without needing to wait until you have time to create a post.
I'll be there tomorrow night at the exact time. Hive is such a big world, maybe there are still things I don't know.
There are always things that we don't know! Also, new things on Hive pop out every day and it's nice to have information about them!
See you later!
One of my questions is that we all know how important it is to have some amount of Hive in our wallet as newbies if they want to be able to perform a certain number of tasks
Our budget truly differs but what do you think the minimum amount of Hive we must begin with should be if we are just starting?
This way, newbies will be able to perform so many actions at once
Thanks for the question! I have put it in the notes to mention in the show today!
As there are some nice projects on HIVE that follow introduction posts, I suppose that there is no need to invest anything to start blogging and creating... If a newbie creates a normal, honest introduction post, it will probably receive enough upvotes to will get them enough HivePower and resource credits for normal engagement on HIVE... So, I would say that between 50-100 HivePower is enough for the start, and to continue building on top of that by engaging and creating...

It's an interesting topic for newbies and I know that it took some time to figure things out. There is no place with all the information and we tend to learn about it slowly over time here on hive. I think that is one of the downsides of Hive right now.
I agree that we need a place where newbies can find easy answers to their questions... On the other side, it is not that bad that we are learning things by taking smaller steps... I remember my first days on the chain when I wanted to know it ALL, but it was just impossible to grasp so much information... It's better to "doze ourselves" and learn step by step...
Also, the problem is that there are not RULES on HIVE, but technical stuff could be listed somewhere...
I think newbies will get a lot of guidance about the platform from these posts, so they can avoid some mistakes that can undermine their chances of success on the platform. Thanks for sharing.
From this post not as much as it is an announcement post for a live show in the Ecency discord, but from attending it, newbies will get tons of great tips!
Welcome back from the holidays! I can't believe you missed last week's show, but I guess even the host deserves a vacation. It's true, we all need a little help, especially when navigating the ins and outs of such a unique platform like Hive. And who better to guide the newbies than the experienced pros, right?
I love the idea of focusing on the "second step" on HIVE. I mean, you can't run before you can walk. And HIVE is a place where you need to learn how to walk before you can fly.
The idea of sharing important tips for newbies and discussing struggles is fantastic. It's always great to learn from others' experiences, especially when it comes to something as complex as HIVE. Cheers to a great start to 2024!
Thank you!!
Actually, these days last week, I had two mini Hive meetups, so in some way, it was a working holiday... π
I hope we will have a nice balance between experienced and newbie users today in the show! That would be a perfect combo for everyone, as old Hivians can learn things from newbies too!!
If only I have someone to guide me on my hive journey when I first joined back then, my hive journey will have been better than now
It's not that you have been here for ages... It's never too late and growing an account takes time... You are doing well...
Newbies always need guidelines and advise thoroughly every single time
