Do You Listen To Podcasts? .:. (Not That) Late Night Blogging π
I'm still on vacation (for another week or so) which means that I spend a lot more time offline than online... More time with friends and family, more time exploring some places that I didn't explore before, or that I didn't visited for a long time... In general, less screen (and Internet) time and more first-person communication time...
A few days ago, while I was sitting with my friends in a bar, the conversation led to the topic of podcasts... Wikipedia says about the podcast something like this:
A podcast is a program made available in digital format for download over the Internet. For example, an episodic series of digital audio files that a user can download to a personal device to listen to at a time of their choosing. Podcasts are primarily an audio medium, with some programs offering a supplemental video component.
Created in Canva.com
Of course, the definition is much longer, but you get the point as some (or many) of you are probably listening to podcasts... There is another attribute that isn't a rule per se, but many times it is like that... Very often, podcasts know to last longer, for example, a couple of hours... They take the time that you have to HAVE if you want to listen to them... In these "rush times" when TikTok rulez with a few seconds of videos, you have to admit that is hard to have 3-4 hours of free time to listen to podcasts...
Because of that, many people tend to listen to podcasts during their commute time, on the bus, train, or metro, while jogging, or in the car while they are waiting stuck in traffic... That's a valid way to spend your time in a quality way...
Personally, I'm not that into podcasts... As I work from home, I spend almost zero time on the above-mentioned scenarios, and the only time when I could listen to them is during my daily walks... But, as I like to pick places for a walk outside urban zones, more into nature, I like to listen to sounds around me... Birds, grasshoppers, the wind, cats? π
But, I have given them a chance lately... I was listening to a guy who does 3-hour episodes inviting interesting and smart guests... As the guy is an intelligent person, the shows are also great and that's probably the "secret sauce" for his success... I watched 1 whole episode, and checked a few others, but only for a couple of minutes... And that was it... Also, I have to say, before going on vacation, I was regularly attending a few weekly Discord live streams from guys from HIVE... Some of them could be classified as podcasts...
Where is the value of podcasts? As I'm not an expert (obviously with only a few podcasts listened to), I will probably miss the point with my comment... In my opinion, the value comes from the HOST, who is the most important of all... He/she has to be intelligent, talkative, open-minded, interesting... The second thing is the guests... If they are "experts" in their field, they usually share an immense amount of knowledge in these "relaxed" talks...
Now, we are coming to the MOST IMPORTANT point of this post and podcasts in general... Now, that you have listened to a podcast and got some valuable tips for your life, your business, or whatever else, it's time to make a MOVE! You know the drill, received information without TAKING ACTION is worthless... Podcasts aren't "reality show content" where you watch people doing crazy shit just to spend your time faster... Podcasts serve to make your life better, to learn something...
Unfortunately, we, humans are lazy creatures... We like to listen, criticize, play smart guys, and usually do nothing that we learned listening to podcasts... In the end, the result is that we "wasted" 3 hours of life in the same way that we could do watching a sport that we aren't even interested in, for example...
While we were sitting and talking, the "solution" to this came into discussion... Isn't better to gather with a few friends and discuss different topics "in-live" than (just) watching some other guys doing the same? Yes, maybe we aren't "experts" like those in the podcast, but you can gather different people with different interests and get tons of value! Besides that, as you are an ACTIVE participant in the discussion, the complete experience and value will have a much bigger impact on YOU and your life... Is that a better way to spend 3 hours of life?
What do you think about podcasts? Do you listen to them? Do you TAKE ACTION when you hear something valuable in them? Let me know in the comment section...
Thank you for your time,

I love Podcasts!
Until last November I had barely listened to one, but then thanks to @epodcaster and @dreemsteem having a @dreemport collaboration with the National Podcast Month, I actually created my podcast and that in fact was where Matilda was born ...
You nailed it though, it is all about the Host in my eye, you can have great guests but if that host is a yawnfest then yeah I skip it.
Mrs T actually listens to them at work so is a podcast /audio book fan.
That reminds me I really should think about podcast topics for this November!
Hope that you are enjoying your holiday!
We miss your show!!! To be honest, when you said that you will take a break, I thought that you are gone and done with the show... :) Happy to hear that you are thinking about the topics for the Autumn...
And I'm glad that I didn't miss the point too much with this post... π
Thanks! One week more and I'm back! :) I hope you enjoy your holidays too!
Ah I don't think of the ecency show as a podcast.
My podcast was "It Takes Two To Tengo"
Yeah holidays are great, the weather is bizarre to say the least, you guys in Europe having heatwaves and we have wet cold weather!
Podcasting is many different things for many different people. I've been listening to podcasts for 18 years. I've also been creating podcasts for that same amount of time. So, I have seen the initial growth, stagnation, and resurgence of podcasting over that time. <- frame of reference for my response below.
I agree that podcasting is a great companion to our active lives.
Going for a drive? Listen to a podcast!
Going for walk? Listen to a podcast!
Working out? Listen to a podcast!
Doing household chores? Listen to a podcast!
Cooking dinner? Listen to a podcast! (You get my drift).
Podcasting is the only content medium you can consume while doing other things. Once you hit play, it's the ultimate hands free way to safely consume content.
When listening to an informational podcast I often pause the podcast to look up what is being discussed or to jot down a note for later action.
As for length of podcasts, I've listened to micro-podcasts (1-5 minutes), nugget podcasts (5-15 minutes), commuter podcasts (20-30 minutes) and long from podcasts (45 min-3+hours) and each podcast was exactly the right amount of time. Why? Because it's less about how long a podcast is more than the value received by the listener. Your podcast should be exactly how much time it needs to be and not a moment longer.
As I'm sure you can tell, I could go on and on about podcasting. I invite you to join me, @tengolotodo, and so many others in November for National Podcast Post Month aka #NaPodPoMo. You might be surprised to discover you're a podcaster.
Thanks @tengolotodo for tagging me so I could read this post and subsequently comment.
Thank you Jennifer, I knew you would put things much more eloquently than I ever could!
I have to admit that I had problems with defining podcasts as I like to listen to/watch short informative videos, sometimes in the form of vlogs, which probably can be classified as podcasts... Reading your comment, it looks that everything is a podcast and everyone is a podcaster!!! π
I was listening to two shows with you (if I remember well π), one with @tengolotodo and the other about HiveFest on Twitter, I think... I envy podcasters for their multitasking abilities... :) I can't do more than 1 thing simultaneously and jumping from topic to topic, from guests to audience is an amazing skill...
Thanks for your comment... Subscribed to your community, will check out what happens there... :)
I only listen to community talk by @theycallmedan on twitter.
He is a great guy with tons of experience... Always a great listen...
I seldom listen to podcasts. I prefer to listen to stand-up comedy to brighten my life by laughing π€£. Sometimes podcasts will go to the topic that I don't like such as politics, religion, and other drama stuff.
!LOL
Hard to find a podcast like this somehow. Sharing knowledge will be boring without their action to catch the viewer's attention. It's better to make a seminar rather than a podcast if they want to share their knowledge, imo. π

Hehehehe... I do that too! You can't survive nowadays if you don't have a laugh... π
I have to admit that I only listen to those podcasts with "qualified" hosts and guests... the rest is just a waste of time... :)
It is very good that you are spending some time away and spending time with your family, it will put your mind at ease and you will be able to function much better when you come back.
Agree... A break is needed to have a brighter comeback... :)
Yeah.
I just started listening to podcasts by the Leofinance team and I think they are valuable. Only the time factor has been a challenge which make me listen not so regularly.
I think the presenters and how they run it matters. The leo team try to make it interactive and its always about a feature update for Leothreads. Apart from the long listening hours which I dont have a lot of it, great podcasts are woth listening to.
I would say that LEOFinance videos are more live shows about their platform, more than podcasts, but you can get some valuable information from there... that's for sure...

I do watch some podcast. There are a few on hive such as the crypto maniacs and a few others that I throw down in the background as I get on with things here on Hive. Just playing it in the background while I focus on doing other things.
I have a big problem with that... Can't multitask and if I do like you, I can't focus on the work, or I don't listen to the podcast at all... π
Never heard of this, I think podcast is an interesting program and is worth being tried out
Thanks for your comment
My pleasure........

Podcasts make great companions for necessary everyday activities. Tasks that require your hands, and not your mind! Doing the dishes, cooking, and cutting the lawn (with an earpiece) ...
It's a good way to maximize the efficiency of your time.
Yeah, they are perfect as a companion for that kind of work... That's when I listen to them... :)
No, I don't listen to it, I like a lively conversation with my children and wife :)
!PIZZA
That's great! That was kind of a point of this post too... Maybe we can get more value from "real-life" conversations than from podcasts... :)

Hmm I don't listen to podcasts haha. But I do watch vids on Youtube. I think it's more entertaining to see visuals than to listen to people talk without seeing their facial expressions. But that's my preference of course.

(no space) to get help on Hive. InfoI think that some of the videos can be classified as podcasts too... Mostly when people are just talking in the studio... You have a video, but it's not relevant to the topic as much as audio...
I hope I'm not offending anyone, but sometimes listening to podcasts is a good way to get in the mood to take a nap. I use this sometimes. Of course, it depends from podcast to podcast, and generally, I pick the "right" podcast to go to sleep. It doesn't work with all of them. Some wake me up. :D
Hahahaah... that's a great use case too! Especially when you find a podcast with a host who has a "sleepy voice"... π
Also, I like listening to the posts of HIVE on PEAKD.
Oh, yes... That's a great feature that can help when we are busy doing other stuff...
I agree that podcasts can be a great way to learn new things and get inspired, but it's important to take action on what you learn. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time.
I think there's a lot of value in gathering with friends to discuss different topics. When you're in a group, you can bounce ideas off of each other and get different perspectives. This can help you to think more critically about the topics you're discussing and to come up with new ideas.
I think both podcasts and live discussions can be valuable. It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a way to learn about a specific topic, then a podcast can be a great option. If you're looking for a more interactive experience, then a live discussion can be a better choice.
Personally, I like to listen to podcasts when I'm doing something else, like driving or working out. I find that they're a great way to learn new things and stay motivated. I also like to attend live discussions when I can, especially if they're on topics that I'm interested in.
It's always all about the right balance... Some people prefer one way, others the other way, but everyone can find the right balance for them... I have to admit that I like the "live approach" more, but I'm aware that tons of value is in the podcasts, educational videos, and other materials...

Thanks for sharing my post!
I almost always listen to something while Iβm cleaning the house, cooking food and other things throughout the day. The medium allows for a good exploration of a topic instead of the pathetic 2-3 minute clips on news channels, the 30 second shit for short videos and other ways to condense a topic to too short of a timeframe. Short clips can be helpful but I much prefer the long form stuff so I can really delve into a topic.
I think itβs important to just be overall informed about topics that we find interesting. Itβs always good to learn things, even if they donβt necessarily have an βimpactβ on your life thatβs measurable. You have a greater depth of experience and I think thatβs important as anything. Doing an action is helpful but so isnβt giving an audience to someone to help spread their message. You could listen to a 3 hour podcast and at hour 1:48:22 you could hear something that you find astonishing and could make changes or impacts to your life. Had you skipped around the thing or just listened to clips someone else made you could have never been exposed to it at all.
If I find the topic interesting I will give it a listen. I did try one recently though and the guests voice drove me nuts! She was quiet, spoke with this gross wet lip smacking voice and I was cringing listening. I only made it 3 minutes before I had to turn that shit off lol
I wasn't doing that before, but when my son bought me Bluetooth headphones, I do! π Most of the time some short videos, but lately, more and more podcasts...
Oh, and I completely agree with you about getting the ideas from just a tiny part of the podcasts... There is no way to memorize the whole 3-hour thing, but those little titbits are usually pure gold!
hahahahhahah.. I had an idea of doing a live show or creating a series of interviews, but your example make me think twice about it... lol... I can't stand people who do weird sounds, chew food or gum, or that wet lip smacking.. hahahahha
