The Summer I Turned Pretty is a beautiful movie series that teaches a lot about heartbreak, summer romance, personal growth, family drama, friendship and, most of all, love. It is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster that will have your insides spinning, tears falling off your eyes and have you smiling really hard. It's a perfect movie series for those of you looking for a way to spend your weekend nights or holidays.

This particular show is based off of the famous novel by Jenny Han. Deciding to resurrect the characters found in the novel, the story has been transformed into a movie. Lola Tung did a great work playing the part of Belly Conklin. Her unique charm, and vulnerability makes the series more relatable to viewers out there

The series of events that takes place in the movie especially the unexpected death of Susannah to the boys and how everyone struggles to cope with the grief adds emotional depth to the film. The love triangle between Belly and the two Fisher brothers also adds plenty of tension and drama, and will keep any romance lover glued to their screen.

The plot of this movie centres around Belly Conklin, who often comes to “Cousins” every summer holiday with her family to see the Fishers family. However, this summer belly comes not as the small girl she always was but now a grown woman in the prime of her youth and the two Fisher brothers fall deeply in love with her. Followed by a series of events that has her questioning everything, Belly must learn to discover herself beneath all the dramas and learn from her past mistakes, get over her first heartbreak and grief over Susannah.

I would applaud this series for how they added life to it, bringing real emotions into it. It really mirrors the ups and downs of being a teenager. Belly’s confusion as to what she really wants is something most teenagers can relate to too. Also, I must applaud the magnificent scenery and visuals the screen provides in the movie. The sunsets, beach, ball all combine to make cousins look like a truly magical place indeed. I cannot go on and on talking about this show without giving a high five to the soundtrack used in this movie. It brings back a lot of old memories as most of my favourite music is basically used. The variety of soundtrack used really goes in line with the ups and down of the movie.

The theme centers more on grief, friendship, and family and love, which to me adds real depth to the storyline, despite it being a teenage romance drama.

However, one weakness to the movie would be the overly dramatic scenes like the stolen glances, and excessive staring at each other. Also, there is a need for more character development for a few of the side characters involved in the story.

My final thoughts on this show would be, The Summer I Turned Pretty is one awesome movie perfect for teens who are trying to figure themselves out with the various changes taking place in their life. It is great how you could watch it with your family. If you've ever had a summer that changed your life, experienced heartbreaks, and watched people you love grow closer and apart, then. This show is perfect for you.
