As Ada stood by the gate, she was unsure of what to do next, she didn’t want to go in. It had been a while since she had left - she didn’t even know if she was still welcome. Many memories were associated with this place - everything she had been running from was here. She remembered her father's sharp and last words that finally made her leave.
"You're happy now huh? She is gone, all because of your impatient."
It stung so much. It was like she was hit so hard on the face. She had just lost her mother and couldn't deal with the accusing eyes of her father also. It was all too much so she left
Now here she was back in the same house she had been running from all these years. The memories from that night hunting her ever since.
Gathering a little courage, she opened the gate and entered inside. Moving one foot against the other, towards the front door when all the memories of that night replayed in her head.
"Wow! You got the interview? I'm so proud of you"
Her mother's voice rang like it just happened.
"Yeah! I just need to go to Asaba tomorrow. If we leave this night we can make it in time tomorrow" she had insisted, even though her mother was not fully onboard with the idea of travelling at night.
Ada closed her eyes once more, wishing that she could stop her brain from replaying the memory by blocking her vision.
She remembered screaming 'Mum look out!' just as they were about to slam into a speeding truck."
The next thing she knew was awakening in the hospital with a broken rib and arm.
"Where is mom? She had asked her sister several times who just kept on crying. Her father came into the room, not saying anything, But his judging eyes said it all.
You're happy now huh? She is gone, all because of your impatient" he finally spoke in a detached cold tone.
Now here she was, a stood in front of the door of the place she once called home, still not over the pain of what happened five years ago.
"Knock knock knock" she hit the door three times, quickly wiping off the small tear that gathered around her eyes.
If not for Sarah's pleas she would definitely not be here, she thought to myself
Sarah had called earlier to inform her that their dad had a stroke. According to her, the doctor said it was severe, he couldn't move part of his body.
After five minutes of knocking, the door was opened. Sarah stood at the front of the door, looking all grown.
"Ada!' she called and quickly jumped on her, hugging me tightly.
Ada managed a weak laugh
"Wow! You’ve grown quickly" she teased, ruffling her hair.
"Well five years is a long time," sarah said cooly before the gravity of her statement kicked in..
The air suddenly became tensed and awkward.
"How is he?" Ada asked immediately cutting to the chase.
He's okay. But sometimes he stares at your picture when he thinks I'm not looking.
"Ada, he really misses you" sarah said stepping aside for her to come in.
The smell of roses filled the house as Ada walked in.Her mother had always loved flowers in her house. She slowly took in her surrounding. Nothing much had changed. Home was just exactly as she remembered, just a little more quiet. Some of her pictures were still hung on the wall. She saw a picture of her at her graduation ceremony and smiled. Then she saw him.
He was sprawled on the couch with the inability to move. He appeared very ill and was getting older. She thought back to how strong he used to be back then. But now, she could only stare at him. Her feet unwilling to move any further.
"You've come" he said. His eyes brightening up a little.
"Sarah called me to come" she said.
The coldness between them was still very noticeable as neither of them knew what to say. She finally decided to move, taking a seat in of the couch close to her. Then suddenly she moved towards him. Taking his hands in hers.
"If I could I would back in time and change my decision" Ada said, her voice shaking as she spoke.
"Its okay. It wasn't your fault". "I was hurt, lost and angry and I just wanted to lash out on the world. You didn't deserve all that" he said, using his free hands to wipe her tears away.
Later that night as Ada retired to her room for the night. She felt lighter. The pain was still there but it was no longer heavy to bear. The family feud between her father and her ever since the death of her mother was slowly begin to fade away
Wow! An interesting story you got here. Although it seemed like the ending was a little rushed. I'm glad Ada and her father were able to reconcile at the end.

STOPI love you story it is so interesting
The reunion scene between Ada and her father felt so raw. Sometimes, healing doesn’t come in big moments — just in the courage to knock on a door you once ran from. Time, love, and forgiveness can mend even the deepest wounds. I was indeed touched.
