Another rambles about things todo

Yeah, yeah I know you have heard it all before. I will be saying it again, because I have bad memory.

I have tried todo things on and off and currently mainly have a habit tracker which I almost always dismiss and a text file for only very specific projects that contain a todo.

Generally, I have no clue what I have todo or want to do.

I think some things are already managed in part by different apps, for example, my language app barks at me if I don't do stuff there.

I start things, and purely through "new shiny thing syndrome" do I remember to continue doing it.

One of the earliest todo tracker style apps I tried using is Habitica, it is a RPG style game where you earn gold and have skills and pets and all the classic RPG style things you might expect.

It never really took for me. I think when I used it in the beginning things were quite involved when setting up your tasks, and frankly the game loop sucks. I checked it out again now, since I am yapping about it in this post and it has moved completely to a "freemium" model which is pretty heavily gated by the premium side so more "fremium".

They do have an open-source repo so I guess a person could host your own version and tweak some stuff. They do have a comprehensive habit, dailies todo creation and handler pattern which I like though. I just don't like the game aspect as it is rather cumbersome and not seamless.

My own tracker

...or what I might look for in one I care to use...

I have started noting a breakdown of what makes each of the items: habits and todo's which I will still expand, but for now, it is there in my Obsidian.

As you can see the main idea is to just make a sort of idle game that like Habitica rewards you for finishing tasks or maintaining habits.

Ok yeah sure maybe I have been playing cookie clicker too much but frankly, I don't think there is another idle game I can think of that is as engaging yet simple.

I also think cookie clicker has hit a sweet spot when it comes to progression and it would be fun to see how I could tie something like that into something I do anyway ie trying to finish my shit todo and trying to do more or less of other things.

Now there might just be an app like that already, and maybe I will find it till then I will keep noting, eventually start coding and one day when I am on my death bed: create my first todo and complete it.
