AI researchers get paid like top sports players!

Hyperion

222 million EUR paid Paris Saint-Germain for Kylian Mbappé to AS Monaco a year of 7 ago.

This is an example of how much money goes around in the football industry. But today the same kind of numbers are being paid and offered to top Artificial Intelligence researchers.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has launched Hyperion in which his plan is to discover and create “Superintelligent AI”. And for that he has a lot of money to offer. Apparently one researcher has been offered 100 million USD for the job. That is a ton of money for just being a researcher and not a CEO or CFO!

At the OpenAI side the same thing is happening, and billions of dollars are invested into a massive brain drain!

Interesting times.

Sincerely,

The job of artificial intelligence researcher seems to have a greater demands too. Ai has created millionaires.

Isn't the real story in this one that he's on the hunt for OpenAI's current and former developers - presumably to steal the technology from them and catch up with his huge backlog.

By the way, he managed to buy only a few for such an unsane salaries. The workers of the Thinking Machines Lab - also mostly former OpenAI workers, led by Mira Murati, former technical director of OpenAI - rejected Zuckerberg without exception.

And the reason was that they don't like Meta's management, company style and morale, they don't want to work for him!!! :) :) :)

They did all this despite being offered 100 to 200 times higher salaries!!!

Show me just one professional soccer player - or any professional athlete - who has similar principles, not just sign where he earns more!

Anyway, probably it's better for Zuckerberg, too, long term, as his vision about the smart glasses (or how the english calls it) will be as big failure as the metaverse dream was.

Steven Gerrard played his entire career for Liverpool FC, despite having had offers for 10 or 20 times his salary at Liverpool, by clubs from Spain, Italy and England…

There you have one example!

I can't understand much of the logic behind paying this large sum of money for talent other than the expected outcome is much higher than the present cost. Maybe we're still underrating how huge AI will get in the future.
